The United nations was created to replace the League of Nations which was founded after WWI.
The United Nations was formed from a pledge involving 26 representatives from countries that were involved or wanted to be involved in combating the Axis powers. United Nations Mission The united Nations mission is to keep world peace and security, promoting social progress among nations, better living standards and humans rights. It was created to prevent another world war from happening. Leadership and Membership The current secretary-General of the United Nations is Ban Ki-moon.
The current amount of countries that are in the United Nations are 193.
The United Nations headquarters is located on the east side of Manhattan, in New York. General Assembly The job of the General assembly is to make policies for that may provide guidance for the 193 nations that need them.
The General Assembly consists of six main committees which are Disarmament and International security, Economic and Financial, Social, Cultural and Humanitarian,Special Political and Decolonization,Administrative and Budgetary,and finally Legal. Then there are other sub-committees like the New Peace Commission, Human Rights Council.
Each of the 193 countries that are in the United Nations are allowed one vote.
The General Assembly makes its decisions by voting on a given subject that they decide they must approach. Security Council The security council is responsible for keeping international peace and security.
There are 15 members that sit on the security council.
The five permanent members of the security council are China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States. International Court of Justice The International Court of Justice is located at the Peace Palace in the Netherlands.
The International Court of Justice faces cases that go against the international laws. For example, there was a case in 2004 which was maritime delimitation in the Black Sea ( Romania vs. Ukraine). World Health Organization The World Health Organization is located Geneva, Switzerland.
The World Health Organization works on creating cures for diseases, and creating other various ways to keep everyone from countries all over healthy. UNICEF UNICEF stands for the United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund.
The UNICEF was created to help children in countries that was devastated by World War II by providing food and healthcare.
The UNICEF does plenty of work globally to help children all over the world. For example, they give children of any gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, etc. a quality education. Summary Slide During the creation of this project I learned three things. One of the third things I learned is that the United Nations was formed October 24, 1945 after the second world war by president Franklin D. Roosevelt, as way to bring all nations together. Secondly I also learned that the current amount of countries that are in the United Nations are 193. One last fact that I want to mention learning about is the World Health Organization (WHO) works on creating cures for diseases, and creating various ways to keep everyone from countries all over the world healthy. In conclusion it seems the creation of the United Nations did the world a lot of good.
