Statement of Teaching Philosophy

I am in the last cohort studding early childhood major at Sultan Qaboos, I believe that
learning is happening all the time and the education is a lifelong process, but the early years
of a childs life is the most important and critical period because childrens experiences in
their early years strongly influence their outcomes in later life. I decided to study this major
because I feel interest to deal with children and I strongly believe that children are our future
and what we need just to reach their full potential by providing them with appropriate
atmosphere.
I believe that each child grows at their own developmental level, so educators should
understand the child as a whole and base the curriculum according to the childs needs:
social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. In addition, I strongly believe that children should
expose variety of learning experiences using an integrated curriculum. Moreover, using multi
sensory learning is the most effective way to teach young children. The different interest
areas (art, blocks, dramatic play, library, music, cooking, computers, sand/water, science, and
outdoor play) expose children to a variety of important skills and meet deferent learning style
of children.
I believe that environment plays a major role in childrens learning. I should set up
safe, rich, familiar, stimulating, environment which supports their curiosity and where the
child can grow, learn, investigate and explore. Consistent with Italian educator Maria
Montessori education is based on the belief that children learn through manipulation of
objects, I believe that the environment should be rich of manipulative materials where
children learn best by doing and dealing with hand-on objects.
My role as educator of young children is to respect the children, provide children with
supportive environment and guide for the child to learn right from wrong and build a positive
foundation of learning. In addition, I believe that the teacher should be the best model for
children. Furthermore, involving parents is an essential part in any early childhood
programme, so I intent to communicate with parents to support childrens progress. In
conclusion, because children are our future, I hope to raise well-being and independent
thinkers who can think critically and build a good society.
