Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the beginning of the new school year! All students have just been
assessed on their prior mathematics knowledge. All of the classes have been going well
so far! I am excited for this year to progress!

I wanted to write a letter of introduction to you because I am a new member of this
community. I come from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and I have only been in Dulce for
three weeks. I recently graduated from college in May from Muhlenberg College in
Pennsylvania. There I received a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a Secondary
Teaching Certification in Pennsylvania. Throughout my years in college I have had many
teaching experiences over a wide range of mathematics classes. During my student
teaching placements I taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra II, and AP Calculus. Also, for the past
two summers I taught inner-city middle school students Pre-Algebra concepts and I was a
substitute teacher back in Pennsylvania. I am very passionate about mathematics and
hope to one day further my education to pursue a doctorate degree.

I also wanted to share with you my classroom rules and expectations. Students
must come to class prepared with all necessary materials. Students are to be respectful to
themselves, their peers, teachers, and other staff in the school. They are to complete their
assignments in a timely manner and by the date in which the assignment is due. I will
assign homework at various times throughout the semester. It will not be on a daily basis,
but students should expect a couple assignments each week. If a student is not in class,
they are responsible for the material discussed and any work that was assigned. They
must make up the work by the assigned date. Also, please note that in order for me to be
a flexible teacher, some of my policies and procedures may be subject to change
throughout the semester. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for other school
policy related questions.

I hope that throughout this year we can work together for the benefit of the
students. By working as a team, I know that we will help the students succeed. I am
available for meetings, conferences, phone conversations, and emails. Please contact me
with any questions or concerns you may have. My email is simons.abigail@gmail.com. I
am looking forward to meeting and talking with you! Lets have a great school year!

Sincerely,

Abigail Simons
