An Enzyme Investigation

1. Distilled water doesnt have any other chemicals that normal water and so it would
neutralize the solution. The temperature at the water bath is at 37 degrees because it is
the temperature of the human body at which the amylase works to digest starch. Then
they are left for 30 minutes so that the enzyme has time to work on the buffer solution,
and so was 10 minutes when the starch was added to the amylase and buffer solution.

2. The buffer solution is used to keep the correct pH of a solution so that the enzymes, in this
case amylase, can work.

3. Add triodide complex to the solution, if there is starch present then it would turn to a blue
color.

5. I believe that by the term control they mean a sort of reference to see if there has been a
reaction.

6. The investigator would have found that in each control tube there would be the same as
the tubes from the start of the investigation.

7. These tubes functions as control of the investigation because you can see how the
solutions were before adding the other solutions and located in the water bath.
