Criterion B: Developing Ideas

Task 3: Design
For all of my designs, I have chosen to put the navigation panel at the top of the page
going from left to right. This is the typical format for a navigation panel, and I wouldnt want to
confuse users by having it somewhere else and making it difficult to find.
Design Option #1: In this design, all the artifacts and the tasks are laid out on the navigation
panel. Very limited clicks are needed to get to where you need to go and everything is very
easy to find. A down side is that the navigation panel looks very cluttered and that may take
away from the neatness of the overall website. Also having the artifact and the evaluation
separated could cause the artifact page to look very empty.

Design Option #2: Each of the artifact tabs would include their evaluations as well. The
navigation panel is very uncluttered and free of too many tabs. It is also easy to navigate, but
for a different reason. There are only two main tabs so you know that all the information is
within those two tabs. The only down side would be that this could potentailly make the
website seem incomplete or empty because no very much space would be taken up with only 3
tabs. In another sense it could also seem organized though.

Advice
Design #3: This is a combination of design options 1 and 2. I gave all the artifacts their own tabs
however I grouped all the tasks together. My reasoning for this is because the focus of my
website is to show off my work from the year as it is a portfolio. This way, most of the
navigation panel will be for my work, while just a fraction of it will be for all the tasks. This way
you can get to where you need to in a limited amount of clicks, and everything is easy to find.
The down side would be that there are still a lot of tabs and if I program any more than 5 tabs,
the reset are hidden under a more tab that is automatically created.
