Relevance for India

Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social and political process that helps people gain control over
their own lives. This can only be achieved through decentralized governance, democratizing
information and local development. Yugantar has had a sustained association of over a decade with
the issue of empowerment. During this period we have contributed to the profound changes that
have taken place in implementation mechanisms and policy.
The research outputs and outcomes of our projects were directly incorporated into the national and
state level campaigns. In the future, we hope to contribute to policy which will facilitate
decentralized systems on food security, health and education, development, etc in order to enable
geographical and administrative entities such as local government institutions between the district
and village levels empower local communities.
This course is relevant to everyone involved in local governance in the country.
