ISGT Abstract

The Department of Energy is charged with advancing the economy of the United States through the
delivery of secure, reliable and efficient energy. The availability of reliable electricity is currently
maintained through economic and engineering methods that are generally independent of each other.
Transactive Energy proposes to achieve the same mission advanced above through a hybridized blend of
economic and engineering goals at multiple levels within the electricity infrastructure. Such an
approach represents potentially an optimal use of Smart Grid technologies, delivering benefits that align
with the DOEs measurements of grid modernization: Enabling Informed Participation by Customers,
Accommodating All Generation & Storage Options, Enabling New Products, Services, & Markets,
Providing Power Quality for a Range of Needs, Optimizing Asset Utilization & Operating Efficiency,
Operating Resiliently in Disturbances, Attacks, & Natural Disasters.
