 What is computer ?

Define of computers

• A computer is a device that accepts input, process data, stores data, and produces
output, all according to a series of stored.
• Computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in
its own memory unit, that can accept data (input), manipulate the data according to
specified rules (process), produce information (output) from the processing, and store
the results for future use.

 Computer as a system
• Includes hardware, peripheral devices, and software.
• Hardware include the device that process data. the term “hardware”
refers to the computer as well as components called peripheral devices
• Peripheral devices expand the computer ‘s inputs , outputs and storage
capabilities
• Today , the term “peripheral device” designates equipments that might be
added to a computer system to a enhance its functionality .A printer is a
popular peripheral device ,as is a digital camera .USB drive .scanner
joystick .or graphics table
• A complete computer system consists of four parts of components:
1. Hardware
2. Software
3. One or more users

1. HARDWARE
• Hardware is any part of computer you can touch (the physical
devices that make up the computer are called hardware)
• Computer hardware consists of interconnected electronic device
that you can use to control the computer’s operation .inputs and
outputs.
• Hardware(Peripheral Devices)
• Expand the computer ‘s inputs .outputs and storage
capabilities .
• The term “peripheral device” designates equipment that might
be added toa computer system to enhance its functionality .
• A printer is a popular peripheral device ,as is a digital camera
,USB drive ,scanner ,joystick ,or graphics,tablets.

a. An input device, such as keyboard or mouse, gathers
input and transforms it into series of electronic signals
for the computer.

ii. Output device

a. An output device (such as a monitor, printer, or

speakers) displays,
prints, or transmits the results of processing from the
computer memory.
1. SOFTWARE
• A computer requires instructions called software, which is a
computer program that tells the computer how to perform
particular task. You may have read or heard about the terms
windows software or macintosh software.
