If you have trouble installing Google Chrome using the normal installer, the
complete offline installer set up file will help you get the job done, even on
Windows 8 the latest from Microsoft.
I was helping a friend here at work, and I had to open his browser. I fired up
Google Chrome and was like . OMG!!! this is very oooold version of Chrome,
with its blue interface.

But, why is he using Chrome v.6 when there is an auto updater for Chrome
keeping everyone on the latest version? Uh, he is inside our corporate
network, and the auto update is disabled. Ive been using an alternate
method to keep my Chrome up-to-date on my work PC.
So, thats the method I want to share with you today. It is nothing but
downloading a complete set up file for offline installation. How is this different
from the normal Chrome installation? Ill tell you.
Chrome Offline File
When you download Chrome using the normal link, it downloads a small file
and then when you run that, that little program downloads the rest of the
stuff you need and completes the installation. When your network is blocking
this download, you need the complete file for your computer to the
installation to take place, otherwise, it will get stuck half way.
You will need the complete set up file if you are installing Chrome without an
internet connection. You can download this the file from the link I am going to
share here to download Chrome on a different computer, copy it to the one
where you need it installed without internet connection.

Ive got two links to share today. Both are for Windows users. It will work on
Windows Xp, Vista and 7. First one Alternate installer for one user account
This file will install Google Chrome only for the current user. (If someone else,
say your family or partner, using a different login ID, they wont even see
Chrome)
Second one : Alternate installer for all user accounts downloads a file which
will install Chrome on a system level. Which means, every user on the
computer will get their own installations of Google Chrome.
Updating Existing Installation With Offline Installer
It is possible to update or upgrade your current Google Chrome installation to
the latest version using this method.
1. First, download the file of your choice.
2. Close Google Chrome.
3. Run the Setup file.
4. Open Chrome when completed.
5. Check the version of Chrome now (from settings wrench menu, click
about chrome)
6. Follow this method each time there is an update to Chrome

I wrote a simple HTML page that automatically generates download URLs
for Chrome of different branches on different platforms and with options such

as standalone installer, installing for all users, etc.

Our workplace blocks Google Update from running so normal updates arent
possible. We have special permission from IT to run Chrome though for our
web dev jobs, I guess its more of a if you can figure out how to, go right
ahead type of thing.
I regularly pull down the chrome_installer.exes that Google Update fetches
and installs normally. Then I wrap it with a batch file that does roughly what
Google Update does:

I name the files AA.B.CCCC.DD.stable or .beta/.dev/.canary and change the
batch file accordingly for each version. The canary one adds the chrome-sxs
flag to the installer too, of course.
I dont pull down canary anymore though since Google changed where they
store the latest canary installer and Im not sure where they moved it to.
This worked fine until IT started running scripts on our machines at regular
intervals to kill chrome.exe (note that we still have permission to run
Chrome, but our IT guy didnt want to make waves by requesting the scripts
not run for us, since Chrome is not technically approved). Considering we
code, test, and run a very complicated web app that does not save or restore
its application state (if the tab crashes you gotta start over) and sometimes
completing a run in that app can take over an hour depending on the specific
project were working on, this quickly got annoying.
I quickly discovered Chrome does not mind if you change its filename to, say,
iexplore.exe, except that about:memory breaks being unable to find
chrome.exe running anywhere.
To streamline the process I took my Google Chrome Portable wrapper I
wrote for portableapps.com and made a special Internet Explorer Portable-
branded version with the rename built in. GCP uses a similar process as
described earlier to download Chrome, except instead of running
chrome_installer.exe it extracts the files by hand and adds some command
line flags at runtime to get Chrome running without the normally required
Google Update registry entries.
I may still tweak some things since I discovered whenever IT upgrades flash
(not often) their script kills iexplore.exe processes

Hi, I found this site linked from a Google help forum, because I cant install
Chrome (or Hangouts) on my Windows 8 laptop. Its because neither can
connect to the internet.
So I tried the Stand-Alone version (installing as admin), which technically did
install, however it too wouldnt connect to the internet. I dabbled with
Chromes advanced settings, but their internet settings took me directly to
Windows internet settings, so I canceled, fearing Id inadvertently change all
my internet settings.
I also turned off Windows 8s default Firewall (both private & public), yet
that made no difference either.
Chrome works on my Android thru my home-wifi. FF & IE both work fine on
my win8 laptop. My win8 laptop settings have been dabbled with by both me
and husband, trying to figure out where MS hid things with their annoying
Start screen, then when trying to network our laptops together, then to the
SmartTV. So its entirely likely that one of us borked something that ONLY
affects Google apps.

I have a Dell XPS 10 tablet, just upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. I have
downloaded the Google Chrome file, but when trying to install it, I dont get
that same error screen. I just get one that says the file can not be run. My
hope is that there will be a Windows app created for Google Chrome,
otherwise, it will not be available to myself and others with the same
situation,
