A TWIST TO HENRY MILLER'S WORK SCHEDULE

COMMANDMENTS

1. Work on two or three projects at a time until finished.
2. Start two or three new sketchbooks, add new material to the current
one.
3. Don't be nervous. Work calmly, joyously, recklessly on whatever is in
hand.
4. Work according to mood and not according to program.
Don't stop at the appointed time! An epiphany can occur right at
the moment you're about to stop for the day.
5. When you can't create, you can work.
6. Fertilize everyday, rather than cementing.
7. Keep human! See people, go places, drink if you feel like it but never
stop observing and making mental notes.
8. Don't be a draught-horse! Work with pleasure.
9. Draw fast and furiously, disregarding likeness in favor of quick gestures
Concentrate. Narrow down. Exclude minor details. Erase excessive
bumps and lines. Streamline.
10. Draw first and always. Writing, music, friends, cinema, all these come
afterwards.
11. Go to sleep exhausted from drawing so you can dream. Dreams are
nothing but drills and rehearsals, which train you mentally to solve
the problems you encountered during the day.

MANDAMIENTOS DEL DIBUJANTE
1 -. Trabaja en dos o tres proyectos a la vez hasta que termines.
2 -. Inicia dos o tres nuevos cuadernos de dibujo, aade nuevo material al que ests usando
actualmente.
3 -. No te pongas nervioso. Trabaja con tranquilidad, con alegra, con imprudencia temeraria en
lo que est a la mano.
4 -. Dibuja en armona con tu estado de nimo y no de acuerdo al programa.
No pares de dibujar a la hora sealada! Una epifana puede ocurrir en el momento en que ests
a punto de dejar de dibujar.
5 -. Cuando no se puede crear, se puede trabajar.
6 -. Abona todos los das, en lugar de cementar.
7 -. No dejes de ser humano! visita gente, ve a lugares, bebe si te apetece, pero nunca dejes
de observar y tomar notas mentales.
8 -. No seas un caballo de tiro! Dibuja por el mero placer.
9 -. Dibuja rpido y con furia, sin tener en cuenta la semejanza a favor de los gestos rpidos
Concentrate. Afina. Excluye detalles menores. Borra las excesivas protuberancias y lneas
innecesarias. Fluye y condensa las formas.
10 -. Dibuja primero y siempre. Escribir, la msica, los amigos, el cine, todo esto viene despus.
11 -. Ve a dormir agotado de tanto dibujar para que puedas soar. Los sueos no son nada
ms que simulacros y prcticas, los cuales te entrenan mentalmente para resolver los
problemas que te plagan durante el da.
