THIS guideline is to inform the candidates about some points to consider/to follow during the
interview and English test sessions. Read carefully on each part and be well prepared!

Interview (Day 1, 2-6 pm)
The point of the interview session is to find the best candidates for the teacher-training program.
This session is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your passion for education, interest and
knowledge in the program and to demonstrate English speaking skills. There are 6 selection
criteria questions that each candidate must respond to. The questions include:
1. Personality
a. Tell me about yourself.
b. How would your best friend describe you?
c. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
2. Accomplishments
a. Discuss a major accomplishment in your life.
3. Goal setting
a. If you are selected, what kinds of planning will you make in Australia?
b. What contribution will you give to your school after the program ends?
4. Motivation
a. Why are you interested in applying to this program?
b. Tell me/us a little bit about the essay you have submitted to the committee.
5. Teaching methodology
a. (Discuss) In preparation for this interview, you have read the article on teacher-centered
teaching methodology and student-centered instruction (attached). Which do you think
the Indonesian education system favours? Which do you think the Australian education
system favours? Note some of the major differences between these two systems.
6. Cultural Preparedness
a. Imagine you are in a school in Adelaide! What questions will you ask the school
members (principal, teachers, parents, and students) to initiate conversation?
b. Imagine you are at a dinner with the family in your home stay! What sort of questions
will you ask them (e.g., about family, father, mother, children, house, food, etc)?

English Proficiency Test (Day 2, 8-11 am)

What to prepare for the test?
1. Before the test.
a. Become familiar with the test format and know how to mark your answers on the answer sheet.
Test Format: Multiple Choices
1. Listening (50 questions),
2. Structure and Written Expressions (40 questions), and
3. Reading Comprehension (50 questions)
b. Bring pencils, pens, and erasers. You must bring several sharpened, medium soft (2B), black
lead pencils. You must use a pen to put your signature on the answer sheet. You will also need
a good-quality eraser.
c. Paper is not permitted in the testing room.
d. Electronic devices, including cell phones, are not allowed in the testing room.

2. During the test

a) Work quickly and carefully.
b) Mark your answers on the answer sheet and NOT in the test book.
c) Try to answer every question to the best of your ability. You may also guess the answer. There
is NO PENALTY for guessing.
d) Remain silent during the test.
e) You are not allowed to talk once the test has begun.
f) You are not allowed to take notes during the test.
g) Work by yourself. You are not allowed to see other test takers answers. Or it is an act of
CHEATING if you share your answers with other test takers.
h) You must work on the section during the time allowed. If you work on a section other than the
one you are instructed to work on, it will be considered as CHEATING. You must not start the
next section until the time is called.
i) If you fail to follow these instructions, you will be required to turn in your test materials, and
your answer sheet will not be scored.
j) When you have finished the entire test, stay in your seat until the test materials have been
collected and accounted for and you are dismissed.
