Sample Lesson Plan with Technology

Class: 5th formers - primary school

Duration: 1 class - 60 minutes
Materials
* Technology component downloaded from/accessed in class at: mobile phone, USB wire,
computers, headphones, microphones, internet connection.
* Other material: blackboard, chalk, pictures.
Introduction
* Review of previous lesson: Students have been working with can/cant and supernatural beings.
They have been exposed to famous and well-known superheroes such as Spiderman, Superman,
Flash, etc. This activity is thought as the final task.
* Objectives of this lesson (tell students about them):
- To encourage speaking and work on pronunciation and share young learners work with parents.
- To talk about abilities using CAN.
Procedure
* Presentation (teacher or student), including key vocabulary: The teacher will show students
pictures of different superheroes, and the class will brainstorm ideas (vocabulary to describe those
superheroes and their powers) which the teacher will jot down on the blackboard.
* Activity (student)
- Students will draw their own superheroes (if there are no computers available in class) or create
it using http://marvel.com/games/play/31/create_your_own_superhero
- Students will also write about their superheroes powers using can/cant.
- The teacher will check their writings.
- In pairs, students will share their productions. They will ask about their partners hero using CAN.
The teacher will monitor the interaction.
- Using a mobile phone to take pictures of the drawings, students will upload them to fotobabble
and record themselves reading the descriptions of their superheroes.
* Learning styles addressed:
- Linguistic
- Interpersonal
- Visual
- Auditory
* Technology alternative (in case things don't work as planned):
- The teacher will take a picture of each superhero with her mobile phone and upload all the
pictures in Edmodo. Then, at home, students will download their pictures from Edmodo, and
upload them to fotobabble.
Review before the end of the class session:
- At the end of the class, students will choose the superpower they liked the most about their
superhero to be shared with the rest of the class orally.
Homework:
If things dont work as planned, the students will have to record themselves at home.
If they dont like their final product they could record themselves again.

Similarities and differences with our regular classes
Without the use of technology, the lesson would develop in a more traditional way; that is to say,
we would have students draw their superheroes and write the texts only. Including technology
allows us to practice speaking and pronunciation plus having parents see their childrens
productions. This makes the activity more meaningful and engaging for students.
On the other hand, the use of technology caters for more learning styles than a regular lesson
does. This is worth mentioning since the more learning styles addressed, the better the results will
be.
