Course Rational/Goal
Students will be introduced to the origins of American History and how it has affected past, present and future
events in United States History. Students will analyze and evaluate the purposes and effects of events
throughout United States History through research, primary sources, workstation activities and classroom
instruction. This course will give the student the opportunity to explore United States History from its early
establishment to our present. Acquired and prior knowledge from other Social Studies courses (Geography,
World History, Government/Civics, African American Studies and Economics) will aid in helping understand
the United States stance in domestic and global affairs. Overall the student will be guided in meaningful
instruction in efforts to score proficient and advanced on the MSATP United States History Exam at the end of
the course.

Materials & Supplies NEEDED
Textbook
o 1 will be issued to student to use at home.
o 1 classroom copy will be left in classroom.
2 (or higher) Three Ring Binder
o Used for vocabulary, notes and other important documents needed for studies.
Loose Leaf Paper
Black or Blue Ink Pen
o Pencils will be issued by the teacher when they are needed.
*NO materials will be issued by the teacher on a daily basis. It is the students responsibility to come to class
with all materials needed. Failure to have materials daily could result in classroom/academic penalties for the
student.

Classroom Procedures
Upon arrival:
Submit any homework assignments in the RED BOX labeled with your block.
Take a seat and begin responding to the BELLRINGER posted on the SMARTBOARD.
Take out notebook, activity book and place textbook on your desk along with a pen.
o No work will be graded in pencil or any other ink besides black or blue ink. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Remain seated and wait for further instructions from teacher.
Upon exiting:
Check the WHITEBOARD for homework assignments and due dates.
Place your EXIT TICKET next to your name on the EXIT TICKET WALL.
o Be sure to put your name on your exit ticket, in case someone has sticky hands.
Exit quietly!
Submitting Assignments:
ALL assignments are due on its said/posted due date. NO EXCEPTIONS!
o Late assignments are deducted 10 points daily, when teacher will accept late assignments!
ALL assignments must be labeled with a name, date, legible writing and stapled if needed.
o NO name means NO grade!
If a student is absent they are allotted the chance to make up assignments based on the number of days
missed.
o i.e.: absent 3 days, student has 3 days to submit any missed assignments
o This does NOT include tests or exams the student knew about the day before they missed.
It is ALWAYS the students responsibility to check with the teacher to inquire if they have any missed
assignments.
o Most missed assignments when a student is absent will be placed in the BLACK BOX labeled
with the block you take the class.


Grading Scale
A 100-90
B 89-80
C 79-70
D 69-65
F 64-0
Students will receive 38 grades each semester in accordance with the TCSD Grading Policy.
Students and parents are encouraged to check the students SAMs account weekly for grade updates.

Restroom Policy
Students are encouraged to use the restroom during their 5 minute breaks in between classes.
If a student is having health or personal issues the teacher needs to be informed at the beginning of class.
NO student will be given a pass to the restroom unless under strenuous circumstances.
If a student dismisses themselves without permission disciplinary actions will be taken.

Substitute Policy
When teacher is absent, ALL rules and expectations remain the same while a substitute is present.
Failure to participate, obey, complete assignments and etc. will result in grade and/or disciplinary actions.

Classroom Electronic Device Policy
In accordance with the TCSD Student Handbook:
Students are to NOT utilize ANY electronic device, unless given by teacher (computer, laptop, Nook, iPad,
iPod), in classroom for any purpose.
When a student is caught with a prohibited electronic device, (cell phone, iPod, iPad, MP3 Player, etc.) it
will be confiscated and given to administration!

*Students are expected to follow the expectations listed in this syllabus in addition to all other expectations
and requirements of the TCSD 2013-2014 Student Handbook.
