Romans 1.

16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to all the believing
ones, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
17
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed
[eschatologically] from faithfulness to faithfulness, as it is written, the righteous one by
faithfulness shall live.
1.17 the righteous one (Jesus) by faithfulness (obedience to death) shall live (be vindicated upon
resurrection)

Romans 3.21-26
21
But now, apart from law, the righteousness of God has been revealed, and is attested by the law
and the prophets,
22
that is, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all
who believe. For there is no distinction,
23
since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
24
they are now made right by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
25
whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement by his blood, through faithfulness. He did this
to show his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over the sins previously
committed;
26
it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he makes
right the one from/by the faithfulness of Jesus.
3.21-22 Gods righteousness has been revealedthat is, the righteousness of God through the
faithfulness of Jesus for the believing ones avoids a tautology
3.26 makes right or justifies by/from the faithfulness of Jesus


The righteousness of God is not some attribute or status conferred on the believer but Gods
saving action through the faithfulness of Christ (in accordance with his covenant: Jesus is the
Messiah the teleos of the Law and the fulfilment of the covenant)

The gospel as the eschatological revelation of the righteousness of God is not justification
by faith of the believer but the of the right wising of the believer by Christs faithfulness -
his obedience to death and resurrection

Double nature it is all Gods action through Christ. Through Christ he is faithful to his
covenant promises and he also through Christ provides the faithful Israelite who completes
Israels covenant faithfulness/obligations. These are not moral perfections or law keeping
but the call to be a blessing and light to the nations as part of Gods saving plan for creation
