Engine exhaust Infra-Red Suppression Systems (IRSS)
improve the susceptibility of aircraft to IR guided missiles
by reducing missile lock-on range and enabling the
optimal performance of IR jammers and flares. Davis uses
low backpressure ejectors and film cooling to provide
large IR signature reduction with minimal aircraft
performance penalty. The AS332 Film Cooled Tailpipe
(FCT) redirects the exhaust towards aft via a bent ejector.
The serpentine shape of the tailpipe provides a full optical
block of the ejector hot metal from aft of the aircraft. A two
piece aerodynamic fairing covers the ejector and mixing
tube to provide optical blocking from the front and side.
The device is supported by a structural frame which is
installed within the aft engine cowling. The AS332 FCT is
FAA certified by STC under FAR Part 29.
