Redox Reactions (normally occur in an ACIDIC/BASIC solution)
- Write oxidation and reduction half-reactions
- Balance each half reaction: 1. Everything but H2O and O2 2. Balance oxygen using H2O 3. Balance hydrogen using H+ 4. Balance the charge using electrons - Multiply by an integer to one or both of the reactions to cancel out e- - Add half reactions - Do stoichiometry Acid-Base Reactions - Double displacement - Find the net ionic equation - Change the quantities of reactants to moles (M = (moles)/(volume)) - Determine limiting reactant - Do stoichiometry Precipitate Reactions - Double displacement - Make sure subscripts are equal - Balance the equation - Find the precipitate - Determine the moles of reactants and which reactant is limiting - Do stoichiometry
