Problem
Faced
This is the second time I carry out my practicum during my campus life. I assume the better result from myself in
terms of teaching and learning planning and classroom control as well. Early before I enter the class which I have
been assigned to teach, I took the name list of the class and have a guide from my mentor about each class.
However, when the moment I enter the 3M class, I know that their discipline was a problematic issue which I am
going to face throughout my 2 month practicum. Without wasting anymore time, I quickly set the rules and routines
with my students. As a trainee teacher, we all know that our first impression when we enter the class is very
important. Some students will look at our appearance and judge our teaching style and personalities as well. I
found that was a problem I faced in the class where some students have poor listening and understanding skills.
Most of the students request me to speak in their mother tongue which is Chinese. However, I refused to do so with
reason we are now having an English class, we should all speak English.
How to
handle
To overcome this problem, I strongly think that I should do the following in the next lesson:
-use simpler vocabulary throughout the teaching process to help students to understand better.
-assign simpler task for students in order to learn from simple to complex.
-explain the words that students cannot understand with other English words.
-never ever speak other languages in explaining.
