Goals of the program:
For Participants: To pro$ide children usin# an Au#mentati$e and Alternati$e Communication
(AAC) system with the opportunity to%
&nteract and ha$e un with peers in a #roup settin#
!ee other peers usin# AAC systems and to learn rom each other
Practice communication skills usin# their AAC systems (displays or de$ices)
Learn some emer#in# literacy skills
'ecome more amiliar with their AAC system to communicate durin# acti$ities
For Parents/Caregivers - To pro$ide parents(care#i$ers the opportunity to%
Learn AAC partner strate#ies to support communication) lan#ua#e) * literacy de$elopment
+enerali,e strate#ies or home and community use
Network with other parents o children usin# AAC systems or ideas and support
Who%
Children between a#es - and ./ who use any kind o AAC system0 Child needs to be
interested in sittin# and listenin# to simple stories or at least .1 minutes) plus needs to
ha$e interest in participatin# in son#s) crats and related acti$ities0
Parents and care#i$ers0 Note: at least one parent/caregiver is required to attend all
group sessions
Siblings are welcome, although they need to remain in the same room and be
supervised by their parent or caregiver. We do not have babysitters. The children
cannot be left unattended in the library. Siblings are welcome to participate in all
activities, as long as they are not disruptive.
