Unit 2: Resilience
By the end of the unit, students will answer the following writing prompt: Write an informative essay identifying ways in which the
slaves demonstrated resilience. Be sure to draw explicit as well as inferential evidence from the text to support your analysis.
Differentiation: By incorporating elements of Multiple-Intelligences Theory into the instructional period, students will have ample opportunities
to interact with the learning materials in a meaningful way. Students who need additional help and support will receive small-group
intervention/instruction, 1:6, 1:4, or 1:1 as needed.
Instructional Modifications and Accommodations: visual cues, audio books/read aloud, manipulative, clearly stated steps, extended time on
task, extra response time, preferential seating, monitor on-task behavior, reduce classwork/homework by 50%-75%, peer/buddy when
appropriate and following behavior plan and IEP plans.
