Preamble Reflection
Doing this assignment helped me think about what the words in the preamble actually mean. I can see how doing an assignment like this in a social studies class would provide a better vehicle for learning than a lecture or reading and analyzing the Constitution. This type of assignment or lesson allows students to think critically about what it means to be an American and how our country is different than others. While doing this assignment I also realized how little I actually learned in social studies classes growing up because of the lack of lesson like this where I could actually grapple with real sources and analyze them in a way that would have made me think more critically.
Propaganda and War Lesson
Lesson Idea: Students will create a table of various images of propaganda nationalism from the Early 20 th century that can be used to explain the issues that urged citizens to mobilize for World War I. Before students get on the computers, we will first discuss as a class what propaganda means and how it is used. Then we will look a modern political cartoon and discuss what message it is portraying and what they purpose of this image is. Students will then select 3 images of national propaganda from each side of the conflict, describe what they think the image means and what its purpose was. When they finish this they will write a brief 2-3 paragraph reflection of what they have learned and what role they think these kinds of images played in the conflict.

Political cartoon were a major source of information back in the early 20 th
century and continue to be even today. These kinds of images shaped people opinions about major events like the Treaty of Versailles and the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand, giving us a unique look into the time period and how at least a certain part of the population felt. They also let us see what might have been the political agenda at the time by simplifying arguments on either side. As for the war, political cartoons helped shape the opinions of the common people. Without television or the Internet, people had to trust whatever was being distributed at the time; so political cartoons had a strong influence over the masses and were a great way for countries to unify their populations towards one goal or one cause.
The Properties of Real Numbers
Lesson Idea: Julian White IDT 7061 In this lesson student will learn about and reinforce their understanding of the Properties of real numbers by making a table.
Before students get on the computer, they will find the definitions of the Commutative & Associative Properties of Addition and Multiplication, and the Distributive Property. We will then discuss these as a class, reviewing any background knowledge they need Students will then get on a computer and make a 6 6 table that will aid them in remembering the properties
Objective: Students will be able to differentiate the properties of real numbers
Standards:
Curriculum: SPI2.3 Identify properties of real numbers
ISTE Standards: 2.b/c, 3.b/c, 4.b, 5 & 6
Problem Statement: What do you know about numbers? Today you will learn about the properties of real numbers, when we use them, and how to remember which is which. These properties are fundamental to all of Algebra. Your task is to make a 6 6 table. First you will define the properties with words, then with algebra. You will then find an image for each property that helps you remember how that property is used and explain how it helps you remember. Then you will come up with a problem where you would use the property. We will have a short quiz at the end of class to access what youve learned.
