EXERCISE 2 b Average Function

Cineplex Odeon Theatres wants you to determine the average sales per theatre value
for each of the movies shown in 2009.

Instructions:

1. Start a new spreadsheet file. Key the spreadsheet values and labels using cells A1:D13.
Do NOT increase the width of columns B, C, or D. Follow the instructions given for cell
formatting and value calculations.

2. Center the spreadsheet titles across the columns A through D in rows 1 and 2 (merge
and center). Change the row 1 title to any font, size 12 and the row 2 title to any font,
size 9.

3. Cell Formatting:
o Increase column A column width
o Highlight cells A4 through D4 – vertically and horizontally center and wrap the text of
the column headings
o Align right the numbers B5 through B12 and C5 through C12
o For cell A13, change the cell alignment to right

4. Calculations using Formulas & AutoSum Function:

o In cell B13, calculate the Total Box Office Sales of 2009 using the AutoSum Function
on the Standard toolbar
 The answer will appear in cell B13 and the function =sun(B5:B12) will
appear in the formula bar
o In cell D5, calculate the Average Sales per Theatre using the formula =B5/C5. Copy
the formula down.

5. Value Formatting:
o Format cells B5:B13 to currency with no decimal places using the $ & decrease
decimal button on the formatting toolbar (Or go to Format -> Cells on the Menu Bar)
o Format cells D5:D12 to currency with two decimal places using the $ button on the
formatting toolbar
6. Borders:
 Add borders to the spreadsheet
 Change the outline and inside borders from the single line default

7. Add a footer.

8. Save the spreadsheet file as ex02b on your home drive.
