mandapas, colossal images and free standing pillars in Shravanbelagola.
Ganga Architects were familiar with two type of free standing pillar.These are Maanstambh and Brahmadevastambh. Maanstambh is a type of free standing pillar which contained pavilion on top of the pillar.ord !ina teerthan"aras were installed in four direction. Maansatambh has it#s significance in $aina doctrine as it is the introductary element for samavasharana visitor. %ne who comes with any proud in his&her&it#s instinct , proud would be demolished after staring at this Maanstambh.Brahmadevastambh is an another type of free standing pillar which is mainly found in southern india.%n top of the brahmadevastambh sculpture is installed. Brahmadeva is considered as subordinate deity in $ainism but very popular in 'annada,Tamil and Andhra !ain culture.(n southern india these stambhas are generally monolithic. Tyagada 'hamba)Tyagada pillar* +, This monument is one of the most ancient monument of -indhyagiri)(ndragiri* sharavanbelagola hill. This pillar is a part of five pillar pavilion or mandapa. Ganga architects constructed $aina mandapa with special five pillar planning where as in .indu culture mandapa is generally constructed with four pillars on four noo"s.Ganga Architects installed a fifth pillar in the middle of the pavilion.%ne such speciman is found on entrance of vindhyagiri hill of shravanbelagola.This pillar is also "nown as tyagada "hamba and installed by famous general chieftain, minister /havundraya in 012 A3.Tyagada brahmadeva pillar was carved out with a single piece of stone and thus categori4ed as monolith.Tyagada "hamba has a base which is beutified with carvings, sculptures and inscription. on the north side the inscription of chavundraya flan"ed by chauri bearers, and of his guru 5emichandra. The shaft of the pillar is decorated with graceful scroll of fine bell shaped flowers and beautiful flowering climbing shrub./hief 'anna, while installing the image of a 6a"sha )an attendant of the god of wealth 'ubera* at the top of the pillar, had a minor inscription no longer than two and a half lines of old 'annada )dated to about 7718 A.3.* dedicated to his deed inscribed on the south face of the base.
