My favorite kindergarten memory is playing with my friends during choice time. Family Handbook Arrival: Breakfast is at 7:30 Playground supervision starts at 7:45. NO students on playground before 7:45. No students in the hall before school. It is very important to have your student here on time every day for our morning meeting.
***Dismissal*** Pick ups will be dismissed out the classroom door to designated party at 3:45! Bus riders will ALWAYS be sent home on the bus. Any changes to your child's after school plans MUST be made through the office by 3:30. Bad weather drop off will be in the cafeteria. Pick up will be at classrooms. Once the classrooms doors are closed they will not be opened!

Kindergarten Expectations Dress Code: No hats Dresses/skirts past fingers with shorts underneath. No spaghetti strap shirts. Closed toed shoes at all times. You will be contacted by the office for dress code violations. Parent Volunteers: In class opportunities will begin after routines are established. (After 6 weeks) Can help at home, field trips, EfS projects, in the classroom, etc... and notifications will go home in newsletters. How are we doing snack? In addition to the non- perishable snacks on the kindergarten supply list, we would like to give students a healthy fresh snack each day.
We will schedule families for no more than one day each month. The calendar will be sent home in the newsletter. Example Snacks: Bananas, apples, carrot sticks, oranges, yogurt, celery, melon, etc...
First Few Weeks...
Children learn through play. Dramatic play will have a huge emphasis during the first weeks of school through reading and retelling of fairy tales and explorations. Math and writing workshop will begin immediately. Folders will be sent home daily with class information. Education for Sustainability Units: Healthy Commons Senses Metamorphosis Others TBD Field Studies & Activity Fee In an effort to promote more learning opportunities outside of the classroom, DGS has launched the Field Studies Program to some really cool places throughout the state. Mr. Truitt has been hired to help plan and facilitate 78 excursions outside of the classroom. Kindergarten is planning on going on 4 or 5. It is vital that DGS collect student activity fees this year ($35 for kindergarten) to help pay for buses and entrance fees. If you need to set up an alternative payment plan, talk to Mr. Truitt, Mr. Jaquette or Ms. Mundt PTA Please join!

DGS Room Parent/Guardian The role of the Room Parent (formerly POC-point of contact) is to help us build community in our classroom. This role can look however we want it to, but needs to focus on a few things: o Inform the parent community about class happenings, school happenings o Recruit volunteers for our classroom from everything to helping with centers to field trips and special events. Friday Enrichment DGS has early dismissal every Friday.
Families can choose to join our Friday Enrichment Program, which provides a choice of interesting activities from 12:45-3:45. There are packets available that explain the program in detail.
Enrichment begins on Friday, August 29th. Remember buses leave DGS every Friday at 12:45. There are NO busses at 3:45 on Fridays.
Home Visits Families new to DGS will be offered home visits to discuss hopes and dreams for your child. Typically your childs kindergarten teacher and student teacher will be in attendance. These visits will be limited to 20 minutes.

First Day of School Line up by your classrooms outside door. Kindergarten teachers will wait until the 7:55 bell to escort students into class. Students will wave "see you later!" to parents and head into the classroom to start our first day of kindergarten!! In order to establish kindergarten routines and procedures right away, parents are asked not to enter the classroom. REMEMBER: Quick goodbyes leave drier eyes!
Staggered Start Days To ease the transition into kindergarten we are beginning our school year with a half day. Half of the kindergarten students will attend school on Thursday while the other half will attend Friday. Please note, your student will only attend ONE of these days. The schedule is posted in the classroom
During this time we will explore the school and learn the rules and routines for recess, lunch, and classroom. All kindergarten students will attend on Monday to begin the year as a whole class.
