Think back on what we have discussed so far: CULTURE, IDENTITY, and IMMIGRATION. As we move forward in U.S. History we will be examining the identities and cultures of many people. Understanding others culture and identity will allow us to understand WHY and HOW many decisions and events took place. Each of you will now have the opportunity to make decisions that will be directly linked to your culture. Pretend like you are moving to a new country and you want to show your new friends what makes you, YOU! Use the work that you have already completed in class to help you narrow down the 5-10 MOST important things that help you determine YOUR identity. Examples: Your favorite holiday dish A t-shirt from your favorite sports team
For each of your five (5) items, please write 1 paragraph explaining what the artifact is, its significance to your identity/culture, and why it is important that you share this piece of you with your new friends. You should write the paragraph on a 3x5 note card. 1 artifact = 1 notecard. Include the name of the artifact on the notecard. You will place each of your artifacts in a suitcase. Consider taking a picture of or drawing the artifact if it will not fit into a suitcase about the size of a cereal box. You will be designing a suitcase by using a recycled cereal box. You may decorate this suitcase any way you would like!
