High School Dance 1 Elective High School Dance 1 Elective

Welcome
Participation in dance provides a medium for physical, social, intellectual and emotional development. The
act of dancing involves exploration, sensing, concentration, focus, projection, and commitment. The purpose
of this elective is to provide students with the opportunity to explore various types of dance including ballet
and jazz.

Class Expectations
Students will be expected to:

-D!'!()P fundamental s$ills and techni*ue in several forms of dance.
-D!+),"T-T! fitness $nowledge and dance $nowledge in the form of a written exam
-D!+),"T-T! $nowledge of dance basics and vocabulary and fitness concepts.
-D!+),"T-T! mastery of dances taught for each unit by participating in an informal performance at the
end of the semester. !valuation is based on the following criteria. $nowledge, rhythm, style and
techni*ue.
The performance is required to receive credit for class.
Students must earn a B+ or higher in this class to be eligible for Dance Performance 2
nd
sem.
Course Overview
Students will appreciate, understand, and enjoy dance as a form of personal
expression, lifelong learning, and personal wellness. They will develop a positive
perspective toward dance as a physical discipline, art form and multi-cultural
experience. Students will learn ftness concepts and work on setting personal ftness
goals that will enable them to have a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
