Room: 2127 Syllabus Rules: I have three basic rules in my classroom that follow the Full Value Agreement Be Safe, Speak Up, and Teamwork They are:
Be Respectful This includes being respectful to staff, teachers, other students, school equipment, and yourself. Being respectful means: using appropriate language, using good manners, following directions, not looking down on others or yourself, not throwing items, hitting other people, spitting, and etc.
Be Responsible This means that you are in charge of taking care of: work due to absence, having your homework done and bringing it to class, letting me know when you will be absent as soon as possible, and etc.
Be Ready Everyday is a great day to learn but you cant do that if you arent prepared. This means that everyday you need to have all you materials (pencil, paper, homework, assignment book, etc) and are ready for class (have already used the bathroom and/or gotten a drink). Discipline Plan: If a student misbehaves the following steps will be taken, please note that steps may be skipped due to the nature of the behavior exhibited. Students will first be given a quick verbal warning about their behavior, if the behavior continues they will either receive a second reminder or a request to see me after class. Depending on the severity of the behavior and the action or inaction taken afterward the student may receive a detention or in serious cases a discipline referral. If they must leave the classroom due to their behavior, there will also be a phone call home. Phone calls home may also be made in the event that a student is perceived as having a habitual behavior problem.
Procedures:
Before Class: Before class is the time to use the bathroom, get a drink and take care of any miscellaneous things that need to be done (gather books and homework, sharpen pencil etc.)
Warm-up Time: As you walk in the door for class, there will be warm-up work on the board. Find your seat quickly and begin to work on the warm-up. If you need to, now is also the time when you may sharpen your pencil, ask about absent work, turn in work missed due to absences, get lined paper, and ask about missing assignments. WARNING: If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you are tardy!. We will go over the warm-up before starting the lesson.
Warm-Up / Daily Assignments: At the start of every class we will have a warm-up on the board to do. Most of these will be writing assignments. You are to write these in the warm-up section of your binder. I do not accept incomplete sentences or incomplete work!!
Warm-ups will be graded at the end of each week. If you were absent and missed the warm-up, get the question(s) from a classmate or see me. It is your responsibility to get the warm-up for the day(s) you missed.
Stumper Questions of the Week: This year we will be trying to add a Stumper Question of the Week. If you answer this question correctly before Friday, you do not have to complete the rest of the weeks warm-ups. However you must have the following for it to be considered correct: 1) Complete Sentences 2) Must show all work 3) Must explain answer mathematically 4) Must not be identical to any other students 5) Must be shown and signed by Mrs. Ritter before class on Friday
Fast Five Challenges: Every Friday instead of a warm-up the class will complete what is called a Fast Five. Each student has 5 minutes to try and complete a Fast Five Challenge. For example the first of these will be all multiplication facts from 1-12. Students will track their progress and turn in their Fast Five Sheet along with their warm-ups every Friday. When a student passes a Fast Five Challenge they move on to the next challenge.
Attendance: I expect you to be in class, on time, every day. If you miss class, YOU are expected to ASK for any needed materials/assignments. Also, if you can let me know ahead of time that you will be gone that will help me collect your work early so that you arent catching up later.
Tardies: Please be in your seat to start class when the bell rings. The restroom is to be used between classes. Please plan time accordingly. Bathroom passes will only be issued the first and last 5 minutes of class. Repeated emergencies will not be tolerated.
If you are tardy, come in to class and quietly sit down and begin the lesson with everyone else. If you missed the warm-up, follow the same policy as if you had been absent.
Absent Warm-Ups: Warm-Ups you missed due to absence need to be completed as soon as you return. You can ask a fellow classmate for the question or see me.
Unexcused Absences: For any unexcused absence, no credit will be given for assignments due on the date of the absence or for tests or quizzes given on the date of the absence.
Consequences for tardies and absences can be found in you student handbook.
Late Work: If you were absent: 1) Assignment due on the day you were absent will be due the day you return 2) Any assignment given the day you were absent will be due the day after your return. 3) Only two late assignments will be accepted per marking period for credit (does NOT apply if you are absent). 4) Sports/field trips are considered pre-arranged absences and all due dates still apply.
Grading Criteria: Participation Points: You will receive 20 participation points per marking period. You will lose 1 point for any of the following: - each tardy of unexcused absence - anytime you are not working/participating in class including: o class discussions o notes o work time o presentations o jeopardy o etc Projects: Projects will be accepted 1 day late and marked down 20%. If late over the weekend it will be marked down 50%. Projects may be fixed up to full credit (100%) if the project was not late to begin with.
