Strategy Name Strategy #_2__

K-W-L

Brief Description (in your own words):
A K-W-L is a chart or tool used for helping students understand and learn a new concept. The K
stands for what they know, the W stands for what they want to learn, and the L stands for
highlighting and summarizing what they learned. It would be used at the beginning of a lesson
when introducing a new concept to the class.

How you plan to use this strategy in your Practicum, Internship, Student Teaching, or in your
classroom:
I would use this strategy in my classroom when introducing a new sports unit. I would let the
students write down and tell me what they know about the sport already, what they want to
know, and at the end of the unit Ill have them write down what they learned from the unit. Its
a good strategy to use for students who havent played a lot of sports and might not be as
knowledge as other students. They get a chance to write down any questions about the sport
and have them answered by the teacher and learn as they go.
