Knitted Christmas Ornament Covers

Designed by Judy Sumner

Materials: Clear glass
ornaments 9-1/2
circumference

1 set of size 5 double pointed
needles

Small amounts of yarn, either
sport or worsted/bulky weight

1 large eye tapestry needle

Note: The smaller number of
stitches is for the heavier yarn
and larger number is for the
lighter weight yarn. When you
have about 1 of work on yarn,
put ornament into it to make sure
it will fit nicely when stretched.

Directions: Cast on 36 (48) sts. over 3 (4) double pointed needles, leaving a 10 tail for
finishing.
Knit one round.
*YO, K2 together. Repeat from * around.
Repeat last two rounds until work measures about 2-1/2.
Knit 2 tog. around for 2 rows
Cut yarn, leaving a 6-8 tail. Thread through the stitches two times and pull tightly to close.
Weave in tail.
Place the ornament into the cover. Thread the cast on tail through your tapestry needle and work
through the cast on sts. and pull tightly. Weave the tail in securely.

Trim Ideas:
When the ornament is complete, you can trim it with a tassel, jingle bells, buttons, beads, etc.
You can make ornaments to match other knitted gifts, your college team, or anything else you
can imagine. Have fun and Merry Christmas!
