Starting next week, your child will be given nightly homework that will provide extra practice and help your child develop routines that will be critical for academic success in future grades and levels of education. Nightly reading (at least 15 minutes has already been given as homework since the !rst day of school and this can include listening to you read to your child. Starting on "onday, # ask that your child record in his$her agenda the title of the book or text that was read that day. %his can be done in the parent comment area to the right of your child&s entry. 'long with this reading, Spelling and "ath homework will also be given for "onday ( %hursday. )nly reading and "ath are assigned for *riday. %his homework is simple and should not take more than +,-., minutes to complete. /our child should be able to do this independently. %here is also 0exibility in how it is completed. %he week&s homework for both Spelling and "ath will be given on the following Wednesday and will be given back that day. #f there are days in your family&s schedule that are busier than others, your child can complete more than one day&s homework on days that are less busy. %his provides a great opportunity for your child to learn how to manage his$her time ( a learning skill that is important at any age1 Initialing your childs agenda each night will be your way to communicate to me that your child&s homework is complete. /ou do not have to check that it is correct. 2nsuring that there is a set time and a 3uiet place for your child to complete his$her homework is the best way to assist in your child&s homework completion. #nitially, you may want to remind him$her to make sure all things, including homework, are packed each night. /our child should, eventually, remember to do this on his$her own as a nightly routine. #f there is a special reason like an illness or a special family celebration that prevents your child from completing his$her homework that night, you can write a little note in the agenda to let me know. # will also record in the agenda Some suggestions. I recommend that a spare set of clothes including socks and underwear be kept at school. Accidents and unpredictable weather sometimes makes it necessary for your child to change his/her clothes. Keeping these items in your childs locker will help to minimize any disruptions in your or your childs day. Indoor shoes will also help to keep our classroom clean and more comfortable for learning. A water bottle will help your child stay hydrated and alert throughout the day so he/she can be at his/her best!
