As the popularity of the Harry Potter series continues to excel, parents are still left with some

difficult questions. Religious critics of the series believe that the magical world of Harry Potter is little more
than harmless fun and fantasy. Others fear that these books and movies are an invitation to the occult. (para

As a reader of the books, I do not agree with the accusations of Harry Potter promoting occult
because the main idea of the books isnt about witchcraft. Witchcraft is just used to portray the real plot
which is about Harry Potter growing up and saving the world from the cold-hearted orphan, Voldemort.
According to Charles Colson, Harry and his friends "develop courage, loyalty, and a willingness to
sacrifice for one another-even at the risk of their lives. Not bad lessons in a self-centered world." He
dismisses the magic in the books as "purely mechanical, as opposed to occultic. That is, Harry and his friends
cast spells, read crystal balls, and turn themselves into animals-but they don't make contact with a
supernatural world. [It's not] the kind of real-life witchcraft the Bible condemns."
Harry Potter made young readers distinguish the right from the wrong and helped them realize that
love is sacrifice. It taught us that real love doesnt stop when you hurt the person you love. It doesnt stop
when they find happiness with someone else. It doesnt even stop when they die. If its real, it lasts always.
Yes, it may have some occult things inside the book but it does not promote it. It just uses it to carry out the
greater plot. As the 57 year old lady in Springfield, Mo says, its this generation's version of 'The Wizard of
Oz.'''
