Science 10 Course Outline

Ms. Trimble

Introduction
This course is divided into four curriculum organizers. Each curriculum organizer is composed
of several Learning Outcomes that must be achieved by students. The more Learning Outcomes
per curriculum organizer, the greater the percent of the course achieved. This course is
cumulative which means your Term I mark will be a snapshot of where you currently are. This
provides students sufficient time to demonstrate all learning outcomes. Each student is
required to write a provincial exam in order to complete Science 10, this exam mark makes up
the final 20% of the students final mark.

Processes of Science 12%
Life Science 26%
Physical Science 46%
Earth and Space Science 16%

Required Material
Students are expected to bring the following to EVERY class:
Textbook: BC Science 10
Science 10 Data Booklet (one copy will be provided for you)
Binder with lined paper (should have dividers to separate assignments and notes/examples)
Pen/pencils
Hand-held scientific calculator

Possible Forms of Assessment
Quizzes
Formal Lab Write-ups
Assignments
Summative Assessment
Learning Outcome Tests
Final Exam

Focused Learning Outcomes

D4 analyze the processes and features associated with plate tectonics

Effort Assessment
See Valleyview Secondary Schools effort achievement rubric.

Interventions
When a student struggles to meet the learning outcomes of this course, the following academic
interventions will take place:
Teacher/student conversations
Teacher/student/parent conversation
