Brief Description (in your own words):
This is used a brainstorming activity that works in a way to help students build background
knowledge before the start of a new unit. It can also be used as a tool for reviewing words,
concepts, and ideas after completing a unit. The completed chart can provide teachers with an
assessment of what students know about the unit.




How you plan to use this strategy in your Practicum, Internship, Student Teaching, or in your
classroom:
I would use this strategy in my classroom when transitioning to a new sport or topic. If the new
sport topic was soccer. I would have students take a minute and write the word soccer down in
the middle of the paper and then have them write words they know that are associated with
soccer. I would have them turn it in and Id go over what they already know about soccer and
build on it while teaching the unit.
