3.5.3 Technique for Analyzing Data
The data from the experiment were analyzed based on the students
individual scores and average scores in the pre-test and the post-test of the
experiment and control group. The result of this comparison will show the
achievement of the students individual scores.
In analyzing the data, the writer presented the students individual scores
both the experiment and control group in from of table. The scores in post-test
were compared with the ones in pre test. To count the achievement of the
students individual scores, the writer used the following formula:

100 x
x
x y
P

=
(Isparjadi, 1998:69 In Listiorini Pratama

Note : P = Percentage
Y = Score in the post-test
X = Score in the pre-test
And to count the students average scores, the writer used the following
formula:
a. Pre-test

X = for the experiment group
2
2

X = for the control group

To count the achievement made by the two groups of students in their

At the end of the analysis, the writer used t-test formula to test the
difference of average scores between the experimental and control group In

CHAPTER IV
FINDINGS AND INTERPRETATION

In this chapter the writer presents the discussion of (1) findings, and (2)
interpretation.

4.1 Findings
There are five findings in this study. They are (1) the students individual
scores in the pre-test, (2) the students individual scores in the post-test, and (3)
the percentage of students achievement, (4) the percentage of the students
average scores, (5) the result of t-test.

4.1.1 The Students Individual Scores in the Pre-test
To know the students individual scores based on the result of pre-test, we
can see Table 4 below. The pre-test was given to the students in the experimental
and control group at the pre-learning activities. The purposes of giving the pre-test
was to know the students vocabulary achievement through short story before the
experiment.
In this case, the writer used multiple choice of test find out the students
vocabulary achievement through short story.

From the table of pre-test, it was know that there was no significant
differences between the experimental and control groups. In term of the individual
scores, the students in the experimental group achieved the scores that almost the
same as those in the control group. Table 4 shows us that in the experimental
group, it was found the highest score was 60 and the lowest one was 40.
There are ten students got score 60, five students got score 5,5 ten students got
score 50 and fifteen students got score below.
In the control group it was found that the highest score was 60 and the
lowest one was 40. There are five students who got score 60, four students got
score 55, thirteen students got score 50 and seventeen students got score below.
Based on Table 4 above, the students average scores in the pre-test of the
experimental group was 50.37 and those of the control group was 48.20.

4.1.2 The Students Individual in the Pos-test
The following table below describes the students individual scores based
on the result of post-test of the experimental and control group. The post-test was
given at the post-learning activities. On the other words, after the experiment, the
result of the post-test would be compared with the result of the pre-test in order to
know the students vocabulary achievement through short story during the
experiment.
The form and the questions of the test was the same with the from of the
test in the pre-test.

From the result of post-test, it was known that the individual scores of the
two group were different. On other words, the students in the experimental group
achievement better scores than those in the control group. In the experimental
group, it was found that the highest score was 85 and the lowest score was 60.
There were eight students got score 85, fourteen students got score 80, six
students got score 75, eight students got score 70, two students got score 65 and
two students got score 60.
In contrary, in control group, it was found that the highest score was 65
and the lowest score was 45. From thirty-nine students in this group, six students
got score 65, seventeen students got score 60, seven students got score 55, eight
students got score 50 and only one students got score 45. Based in Table 5, the
students vocabulary average score in the post-test of the experimental group was
76.5 and those of control group were 57.43.

4.1.3 The Percentage of the Students Achievement
To find the percentage of the students individual achievement in the
experimental and control group was the students individual score in the post-test
minus the students; individual score in the pre-test divided by the students
individual score in the pre-test, and than the result times 100%. Based on the
formula below:

Based on Table 6 above, it could be concluded that highest percentage of
the students individual achievement in the experimental group was 77.7% and the
lowest one was 25%. From the data presented on the table, there were twenty four
students whose score increase over 50% and only fifteen students who made the
individual achievement below 50%.
In the control group, the highest percentage of the students individual
achievement was 50% and the lowest one was 8.3%. only five students who made
the individual achievement more than 50% and thirty-four students who made the
individual achievement below 50%.
