Adventure Road Overlords Descend
Game setup

Main map setup:

1. Main map will consist of pieces marked on the back with a treasure map icon, while the front
side will depict land masses.
a. These pieces are called Map Board Land
2. Player will configure the main map to a minimum of 6 Land pieces.
a. Currently main map consist a total of 9 Land pieces, following this set.
3. Maps come with a corresponding tile, which will be place in the pouched provided.
a. Use all tiles that match with the created main map.
4. Player will shuffle the monster deck and place no less than 10 Monster Cards on the main map
pieces.
a. Cards will be placed on the area mark as Monsters.
b. Following set consist of 90 Monster Cards.
c. Depending on the size of the main map, players main place more than 10 monsters on
the map.
d. Player will flip over the top card of the monster deck, monster effects will not be
triggered at this point.
5. Player will now randomly place the towns and overlord tower tokens on main map.
a. Some map pieces may not have any tokens.
6. Player will now take the correct amount of Trap Cards and Relic Cards. Shuffle the cards
together and place 1 card, face down, around the map.
a. Player will place the card on the area marked Relic/Apostles
b. The amount of relics to be played is determined by the size of the map.
i. Take the total pieces, use in the main map, and divide the number by 2.
1. EX. Total map size is 6, and then divides 6 by 2, which will get an answer
of 3. Player will use 3 relics during this game.
2. Round down for all answers.
c. The amount of traps to be played is determined by the size of the map and the amount
of Relics Cards used.
i. Take the total map pieces, use in the main map, and subtract it by the total Relic
Cards used.
1. Ex. Total map size is 6 and Relic Cards use is 3. 6 subtracted by 3 will
give an answer of 3. So, 3 Trap Cards will be used during this game.
7. This concludes the Main map setup; please move on to town map setup.

Town map setup:
1. Town map will consist of pieces marked with a town icon on the back of the board, while the
front will depict a market or bar scene.
a. These pieces are called Map Board Towns
2. Player will place 6 market pieces together and 6 bar pieces together, away from the main map.
a. Market pieces will have a stall icon on the front side of the board.
b. Bar pieces will have a mug icon on the front side of the board.
3. Player will take the Equipment Cards, please do not include worn out equipment in this pile, and
Spell Cards, and shuffle them together; then place them either on the far left or far right of the
market map.

a. Take the top card of the deck and lay it on one of the empty slots. Continue to do this
until all slots are no longer empty.
4. Player will take the Recruit Cards, shuffle them and then place them either on the far left or far
right of the bar map.
a. Take the top card of the deck and lay it on one of the empty slots. Continue to do this
until all slots are no longer empty.
5. This concludes the Town map setup; please move on to Overlord Tower setup.

Overlord Tower setup:
1. Overlord Tower maps consist of pieces marked with a tower icon on the back of the board,
while the front will depict guard towers, magic circles, throne room and overlords keep.
a. These pieces are called Map Board Overlord Towers
2. Player will place the throne room piece, marked with a crown marking, away from the main map
and town map.
3. Player will place the overlord keep, mark with a portal icon, adjacent to the throne room.
4. Player will place 2 guard towers pieces, mark with a shield, below the throne room.
a. Players may place more guard tower piece if they desire.
b. The following set has only 4 guard tower pieces.
5. Player will place required magic circles pieces, marked with a star, below the guard towers.
a. Require amount of magic circles needed is half the amount of relic cards used during a
game, rounded down.
i. Ex. 3 Relic Cards used, will require only 1 magic circle piece.
6. Player will place the hex room piece, marked with a crystal ball, adjacent to the throne room.
7. Player will choose an overlord and place it in the throne room.
8. Player will take the require amount of Apostle Cards and place them on the overlords keep.
a. The require amount of Apostle Cards is equal to the amount of Relic Cards used in game,
plus the amount of guard towers placed in game.
i. Ex. 3 Relic Cards used and 2 guard tower pieces used will add up to 5. For this
game 5 Apostle Cards will be used during this game.
b. Take the top card of the apostle deck and place it on 1 of the empty guard towers. Do
this until all guard towers are no longer empty.
c. The rest of the apostles left in the overlords keep will be left face down.
9. Player will take the Cursed Cards and shuffle them. Then place the cards on the hex room,
marked with a crystal ball, face down.
10. This concludes the Overlord Tower setup; please move on to Bank setup.

Bank Setup:
1. Bank maps consist of pieces marked with a treasure box icon on the back and front of the board.
a. These pieces are called Map Board - Bank
2. Place all 4 pieces of the bank together, away from the other map pieces.
a. Make sure the pieces with the coin icon, marked with the number 3, is place on either
the far left or far right of the map.
3. Place the investment cards on the map piece with the coin icon, face down.
4. Place the +1 gold card on the far left open map piece.
5. Place the +3 gold card on the right of the +1 gold card pile.
6. Place the +5 gold card on the right of the +3 gold card pile.
7. Place the victory and power crystal near the bank.
8. This concludes the Bank Setup; please move on to the Player Setup.

Player Setup:
1. From the Bank, hand each player 9 +1 Gold cards and 5 worn out equipment.
a. This will be the players starting deck.
2. Players will then choose a hero of their liking.
3. This concludes player Setup; please move on to the Players Turn Guidelines.

Players Turn Guidelines:
1. Players will randomly determine starting player.
a. The next player to have a turn will be the player to the left the starting player.
b. Continue in a clockwise rotation until all players have taken a respective move.
2. All Players will draw 7 cards from their deck; this will be the players hand.
3. At the start of a players turn, he or she will roll a D9.
a. If a player rolls a certain number, an event will occur.
i. Rolling 4, 5 or 6 will trigger the Overlords Command.
1. The Overlords Command is an order to the apostles to capture a map
piece.
2. The piece that the apostles will capture will be decided randomly as
well.
a. For this purpose a player will grab a tile from the pouch to
determine which piece will be captured.
3. The following will occur when an apostle seizes a land piece.
a. Landing on any pieces with a town tokens on the map will cause
the market and bar size to be reduced by 1 slot.
i. Flip over 1 card, face down, from the bar and market.
ii. This card cannot be purchased and slot cannot be
refilled.
iii. Apostle must be defeated or banished to remove this
effect.
b. Landing on any pieces with the overlords tower on it will cause
apostle to revive as a guard in the guard tower when defeated.
c. Landing on any pieces with no tokens will have no effect.
b. Rolling any other number will trigger no other effects.
4. Player will now use their hand to make purchases or declare attacks in any order.
a. All cards purchased will be placed in players discard pile, unless instructed to do
otherwise.
b. All cards obtain as a reward will place in players discard pile, unless instructed to do
otherwise.
c. All other rewards that are not cards will be place in players storage pool.
5. Once player has declared their end phase, player will discard their original hand, used or unused
cards, into their discard pile.
6. Player will now draw a new hand of 7 cards from their deck.
a. If a player is unable to draw a card, from their deck, then the player will shuffle their
discard pile to create a new deck.
b. Player will continue to draw from new deck until player reach maximum hand size.
7. Next player in line will then repeat steps 3 to 6
a. 1 round will be completed when all players have taken a turn.
8. This concludes players turn guidelines, please move on to purchasing guidelines.

Purchasing Guidelines:
1. When making purchases, play all currency cards in desire order for maximum results, the total
will be the amount used to make purchases.
a. This will be known as your gold sac (Hidden of course).
2. Once a card is purchased, deduct the amount from the total.
a. Refresh an empty slot with a new card, after a purchase is made.
3. Player will continue making purchases until, purchase can no longer be made.
a. Purchase total cannot exceed total gold sac.
b. Unused gold will be lost, once players turn ends
c. Purchases will be placed in players discard pile, unless told otherwise.
4. This concludes purchasing guidelines; please continue to combat guidelines.

Combat Guidelines:
1. When declaring combat, play all equipment and spell cards in desire order, for maximum
results, the total will be the amount used to make attacks.
a. Once a card is used for the attack phase, it cannot be switch to a defense card, if has the
effect defend.
2. Player will then declare attacks on any creatures on the field, monsters, apostles or overlord.
a. Creatures will be defeated once health of the creature has reach 0.
b. Creatures maybe attack, even though it will not defeat the creature. Creatures will be
wounded, so player will place a wound counter on the creatures.
c. Creatures that are not defeated will retaliate by attacking the attacker. Player may
defend this attack with an effect called defend.
d. Player will take the creatures attack value and place wound counters, equal to its value,
on the hero. This applies, when player has not defended against the attack.
3. Once a creature has been defeated, it will be placed in a discard pile near the overlords tower.
a. If a defeated creature was part of a pile or deck, player will flip over the top card to
reveal the new creature.
4. Player will now deduct the total attack from the total health of the creature, to obtain the new
attack value of the hero.
5. Player may continue attacking creatures, until combat declaration can no longer be made.
a. Total attack value may not exceed total health value of defeated creatures.
b. Unused attack value will be lost, once players turn ends.
c. Unused cards in players hand will be discarded into players discard pile.
6. This concludes combat guidelines; please continue to facing the Overlord Guideline.

Facing the Overlord Guideline:
1. Player must obtain the require amount of relics to disperse the fog wall of the Overlords tower.
2. Player must defeat all the guards of the guard towers, before facing the overlord.
3. Players can now combat the overlord to end the game.
4. This concludes facing the Overlord guidelines; please continue to obtaining the relics guidelines.

Obtaining the Relics Guidelines:
1. Defeat all Monster Cards on a Land pieces to reveal the relic card on that map.
2. Defeat an Apostle that is guarding a relic card to automatically reveal relic card.
3. If player reveals a Relic Card, not a Trap Card, then place the reveal Relic Card on the magic
circle at the overlords tower.

4. Once all magic circles at the overlords tower have been filled, the fog wall covering the
overlords tower will be dissipated.
5. Overlord tower can now be access by players.
6. This concludes obtaining the relics guidelines; continue to Apostles Guidelines.

Apostles Guidelines:
1. Apostles that are defeated on the map or guard tower will return to the overlords keep, placed
at the bottom of the deck.
2. Apostles that are defeated on top of a relic or trap card will automatically be revealed.
3. Apostles that are banished will return to the overlords keep, placed at the bottom of the deck.
4. If 2 apostles land on the same map, the map is destroyed and flipped on its back side.
a. Relic cards on that map is destroyed and place in a destroy pile near the overlords
tower.
b. Tile piece for that map is removed from the tile pouch.
c. Monster cards will migrate to an adjacent Land piece, placed at the bottom of the deck.
Players may choose which map if they are more than 1 adjacent pieces.
d. Town tokens are permanently destroyed and the town area map is permanently
reduced.
e. Overlord Tower is the exception to this rule of destruction, instead the previous apostle
will move to 1 of the guard tower. If the guard tower is already occupied, placed card
face down under the deck.
5. This concludes Apostles Guidelines; please continue to Overlord Guidelines.

Overlord Guidelines:
1. Overlord will use his command at the start of each players turn.
2. If the overlord cannot command an apostle to capture a land piece, a counter will be place on
the map, then a countdown order will be set to destroy the relic or trap card.
a. When the map has receive 3 counters, then destroy the relic or trap card and place it in
the destroyed pile near the overlord tower.
b. The countdown counter will be place on map that an apostle is sitting on.
3. This concludes Overlord Guidelines; please continue to Player Death Guidelines.

Player Death Guidelines:
1. If a player reaches zero health, the player will be knocked out but may return to game, once per
game, by forfeiting 30 victory points.
2. Players turn will end once player has been revived.
3. This concludes Player Death Guidelines; please continue to End Game Guidelines.

End Game Guidelines:
Players defeat the overlord, which triggers the end game.
o All players will now add up fame points to decide who the legendary hero is.
Power and Victory Crystals are worth 1 fame points
All cards in deck will have a fame indicator to be added up.
Overlord destroys all the relics or maps, which end the game as the players loss.
All players have been knocked out, which end the game as the players loss.
