Answers :

1. Tourism may be defined as the processes, activities, and outcomes arising from the
relationships and the interactions among tourists, tourism suppliers, host governments,
host communities, and surrounding environments that are involved in the attracting and
hosting of visitors. Tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and staying in
places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure,
business and other purposes. Tourist is a person who goes on holiday to visit places away
from their home. But travel is long distance journey, far away.
A “visitor” is defined as those persons who travel to a country other than that in which
they have their usual residence but outside their usual environment for a period not
exceeding twelve months and whose main purpose of visit is other than
the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited.
Excursionist is taken from the word “Excursion” is a short visit, often no longer than one
day, returning to the place from which you left _ We’re planning an excursion to

Brighton. _ The whole school went on an excursion to the zoo. Excursionist is someone
who goes on an excursion, especially for pleasure.

3. Environmental impacts of tourism.

As far as I know, tourism has positive and negative impacts to the environment, where it
consists of two; natural and physics.
Positive impacts:
 Financial contribution
Tourism makes the people around the destinations increase their income, make they get
job. And all of that make increasing in tax.
 Improve local industry
The people around the destination can make improve their local industry because there
are a lot of tourists who touring and they need products of the local industry to their daily
needs, and craft.
 Develop / improve environmental management
The government and the local people will manage their environment because their place
has been a destination.
 Protection of environment
 Environment awareness

Negative impacts:
 Depletion of natural resources;
1. Water resources; such as using of water to swimming pools by hotels,
hospitals etc

3. Land resources; soil, fertile, forest, wildlife
 Pollution;

4. Public and private involvement in tourism. They need each other in developing a
tourism place. There are some infrastructures that built by public such as: Air Service,
Road Network, Public Transportation, Vibrant Urban Centers, Safety / Security, Beaches,
Public Park Systems, Historical Sites, Museums, Cultural Arts, Festivals / Events, Sports
Facilities, Convention Centers, Zoos / Aquaria etc. And the private built some
infrastructures also, such as: Hotels, Conference Centers, Restaurants, Destination,
Shopping, Theme/Amusement Parks, Sports Facilities, Golf Courses, and Gaming etc.
There are some reason why public and private should be partner in tourism:
 Greater integration of policies and practices relating to tourism planning by the
public and pvt. Sector is possible.
 Tourism infrastructure- most critical component can be financed jointly.
 Public private involvement can help development and beautification of tourism
projects
 Guides Private enterprises into areas and programs in which it would be more
successful.
Generally the government has some roles such as;
 Umbrella Cover: Providing policy over-all support to the initiative
 Land : Provisioning of Land for projects to be developed
 Financial : Financing Support where necessary
 Clearances : Provision of statutory and project specific clearances within its
control
 Fiscal Concessions : Grant of Fiscal concessions to projects
 Project performance : Monitoring

 To participate in the preparation of investment guidelines and marketing
strategies and assist in database creation and research.
 To ensure preservation and protection of tourist attractions and take lead
in green practices.

organise overseas promotion and marketing jointly with the industry.

5. Favorite Destination is the place that visited by so many people (tourists) because of it
facilities, popularity and others. Destination which is called a favorite destination has
some requirements such as;
1. Visitors. A favorite destination will appear when most of tourists visit the place.
So, it is impossible a favorite destination visited by some tourists only. It means
that the place have been in the visitors heart.
2. Facilities and accommodations. The destination that has good facilities and
accommodation can be call as a favorite destination because both of them
influence the development of visitors, etc.

6. In my opinion, promoting a tourism place is not the same as promoting a product of a

company because both of tourism places and product of company are different. In
promoting a tourism place in my regency, I have some ways;
1. Promote the tourism place as an interesting destination and gives benefits to the
tourists who visit.
2. Promote about the tourism products that have been improved.
3. Promote about the goodness (the unique) of the destination than others.
4. Build–up a good relationship with media, where it very important to promote the
destination in mass media.
