Introduction-
This week what have week been learning about the internet? Can anybody name some of the
things we have talked about or learned? Would anyone like to tell us the username they have created
for themselves? So today we are going to discuss a very important part of internet safety, cyber bullying.
Does anyone know what cyber bullying is? Cyber bullying is defined as the use of the Internet
and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. Go over
information in power point allowing time for questions.
Body- start off by showing the video
(http://www.brainpop.com/technology/computersandinternet/cyberbullying/)
After watching the video students will complete the worksheet (see attached) and then using
the mobile lab each student will log on to the website below and play the games about safe surfing on

the internet. Make sure you bring the website upon the smart and show students how to locate the
website and navigate through the topics.

Conclusion- Go over what each student felt was their favorite part of cyber bullying. Assign
homework. Students will sign the Disney internet safety pledge (http://a.dolimg.com/media/en-
US/dcom/guestservices/safety/webagreement.pdf)

Assessment
Diagnostic- input during introduction
Formative- paying attention to video and games (checking for correct answers)
Summative- quiz on video

Materials
Mobile lab, projector, worksheets, pencils, Smart Board

Reflection
This lesson was a great success. The students were able to use the mobile lab to complete the second
part of the activity with little to no errors. Most of the students enjoyed using the website. Even though
it is a little outdated, it is still developmentally appropriate because it brings the information about
cyber bullying down to their level. It wouldnt be developmentally appropriate to give fourth grade
students examples of cyber bullying involving adult situations and this website stays true to their age
range.

Data Based Decision Making
The data below is based on the students answers to the quiz. Overall they did very well. I am
glad that I used the quiz, because it actually gave reason for them to pay attention. The questions I used
were not just multiple choices, so students were required to actively listen to key points in the video.
Out of the twenty one students in class this day, seventeen got every answer right. The question that
was most commonly missed was question number 5 (How can you appropriately take care of a cyber
bully?). I wouldnt necessarily go as far as saying that their answers were incorrect, because in theory
they were correct, they just didnt match up with what the video gave as an answer to that question.
The chart shows exactly how many students got each of the questions correct. If I were to teach this
lesson again I would keep the questions the same, but I would word question number five differently.
For example, next time I may say According to the video, how can you appropriately take care of a
cyber bully? I would also go back and add a question allowing students to formulate their own response
on handling a cyber bully. This would delve deeper into the topic and allow students to form their own
opinions.
