Student Experiences:
1. As a whole class compare and contrast the extinct dodo bird (pages 12- 13) with the solutions being taken to save the Jaguars (pages 22-23). 2. Individually students will do the same comparisons with the dodo bird and another animal of their choice. a. Students work individually to use the webpage http://dodobird.net to research the dodo bird and all factors contributing to its extinction b. Each student take the find your inner animal quiz found at http://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/find-your-inner-animal c. The animal presented to each student at the end of this quiz will determine the animal group they base the next contrast activity on. d. Students use the website http://www.australiangeographic.com.au/topics/science- environment/2014/06/australian-endangered-species-list to choose an endangered animal. 3. Present information clearly using headings for clarity of knowledge a. Compare and contrast the reasons for dodo extinction with the reasons for risk factor of their chosen animal. b. Is their chosen animal on the same path as the dodo birds was? c. What should be taken as measures of protection to avoid this animal becoming extinct forever (like the dodo bird). 4. Whole class discusses the different animals that people were paired with on the quiz and subsequent animals chosen for investigation.
