POB Media Center Guidelines for Laptop Use (Mon-Thurs.

)
(Fridays are designated for individual student use.)

Purpose of Guidelines

1. Rules that must be followed regarding student and staff responsibilities in use of media
center laptops.
2. Laptop Guidelines to be used in addition to POB Acceptable Use Policy.
3. Teachers must attend PD training on policies and research guide for students use before
checking out the laptop cart. Teachers must provide care and safety use training for
students.


Laptop Usage



1. The mobile lab can be checked out to a classroom teacher as a unit. There are 30
Laptops and one is being utilized by Administration, which will give you total count of
29 laptops for classroom usage. The teacher will have the responsibility for pick up
before 7:15 am and safe return of the mobile lab to POB Media Center by the end of
the day. All laptops must be returned by 2:45 pm.
2. Laptop Carts can be reserved up to two (2) weeks in advance and will have a 2 day
limit per calendar week. This allows for more opportunities for other staff members
to also reserve the cart.
3. Laptops can be checked out individually by students on Friday in the Media Center.
The student will have the responsibility for the safe return of the laptop to Ms.
Moore by the end of the period.
4. Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students understand and follow the rules
for laptop use in the classroom. Keys to lock cart will be held by Ms. Moore and Mrs.
Ullah.
5. Laptops may not be taken home overnight.

Teachers Role

1. Sign up is done in the Online Google form and will receive a calendar request for
scheduled use.
2. Teachers are responsible for the laptop cart: signing out laptops to each student
(Student Laptop Sign out Form), moving the cart, locking and unlocking the cart,
recharging, and making sure all laptops are returned to the media center and are locked
safely in the cart at the end of the usage.
3. Each classroom will have in place a protocol for distribution and collection of the laptops
to students.
4. Teachers need to monitor student use: no downloading of games or music. Non-
educational games are forbidden on any laptop.
5. Prepare backup lesson plans to use if the computer network is down.
6. Teacher will observe that all rules are followed and report infractions to Ms. Moore or
Mrs. Ullah.
7. Ensure that students watch the Laptop Cart Training for Students or you can go over the
expectations each time that you check out the laptop cart

Student Laptop Expectations

Students while using the Laptop, please remember to DO the following:

Please return and plug in the Laptop each day prior to the end of the block.
Please handle with care at all times.
Please carry/hold with two (2) hands at all times.
Please use only for instructional purposes.
Please immediately report any issues to the teacher.
Save all pictures (that are directed to be taken by the teacher) and any other files to
your CMS Google Account. Laptop content may be erased at any time.

Students please DO NOT do any of the following:
Do NOT run or engage in any other careless behavior (i.e. horseplaying) while using
device.
Do NOT eat or drink (including water, candy, etc.) while using the Laptop.
Do NOT use art supplies such as glue, paint, or glitter while using the Laptop.
Do NOT download any apps, music, etc. on Google Chrome.
Do NOT change any settings on the Laptop.
Do NOT take any pictures with the device unless instructed to so by the teacher.
Student Offenses
Failure to following the laptop use rules will result in the suspension of the privilege. Follow
are examples of unacceptable behavior which will result in the loss of privileges:

1. Touching the laptop screen with any body part or anything attached to a body part.
2. Reaching over and driving a laptop when it is not your turn.
3. Hitting laptop keys unnecessarily hard.
4. Picking a laptop up and moving it around unnecessarily.
5. Walking and typing on laptop
6. Playing with the screen- (i.e.: tilting it back and forth, closing a screen hard).
7. Attempting to remove any part of a laptop.
8. Changing any of the settings on a laptop (i.e.: screen wallpaper and etc.) or downloading
anything without teacher approval.
9. Having food/drink/pencils, etc. on desk when using a laptop.
10. Turning laptop off without properly shutting down.
11. Printing without selecting the correct printer.
12. Scratching or attempting to scratch the screen.
13. Touching a laptop screen with a pencil or sharp object.
14. Breaking any part of the laptop.
15. Sticking any objects into or underneath the laptop keys.
16. Dropping the laptop due to careless behavior (i.e.: running, etc)
17. Having a liquid near the laptop or spilling a liquid or food on the laptop.





















Ideas to Integrate Information Literacy/Technology (Research Databases) into your Classroom using student laptops
The student laptops can be used for formal assessments and content area research and to integrate technology.

(Avoid Google for classroom research if possible).
Below you will see I have research guides for each content area. Note: I am still revising the research guides and I will
take any/all suggestions from your content areas.

In the Student Research Center students are able to search, magazine, newspapers, encyclopedias, and primary source
documents. Students will also be able to access scholarly source documents:

Go back to the research databases page and click on SIRS Issues Researcher.

There are over 350 topics covered to aide in classroom instruction. Critical current issues and enduring social issues
are covered through full-text articles, multimedia, primary sources, government documents and reference material from
over 1,800 national and international sources. All publications and are hand indexed to subject headings. (Username
and Password: Contact Ms. Moore) (Copyright violation to give username and passwords online).

Students are able to find a detailed timeline, sort documents by statistics, global issues related to the topic, and find
article with strong viewpoints.

technology tools that students can use for their various assignments to integrate technology.

POB Guidelines for iPad Cart Use (Mon-Fri)

Purpose of Guidelines

1. Rules that must be followed regarding student and staff responsibilities in use of ipad carts.
2. Laptop Guidelines to be used in addition to POB Acceptable Use Policy.
3. Teachers must attend PD training on policies and resources for students use before checking out the laptop cart.
Teachers must provide care and safety use training for students.


iPad Usage
1. Five (5) iPad carts that contain 10 iPads can be checked out to a classroom teacher as a unit. Each teacher may
check out only one (1) iPad tray at a time.
2. iPad carts can be reserved up to two (2) weeks in advance and will have a 2 day limit per calendar week. This
allows for more opportunities for other staff members to also reserve the cart.
3. The teacher will have the responsibility for pick up and safe return of the iPad cart to Mrs. Ullahs Office (Room
354) by the end of the day. Students should not transport the devices.
4. All carts must be returned by 2:45 pm. If Mrs. Ullah is not in her office please take the cart to Ms. Moore in the
media center or secure the tray in a secure location overnight.
5. The iPad carts should remain with the same teacher all day. The iPad cart or ipads within the cart should not be
lent out to other teachers unless prior approval was given by Mrs. Ullah, Dr. Jones, or Ms. Moore.
6. iPads should not be switched with ipads from other carts.
7. Substitute teachers will not be allowed to utilize the cart in your absence.
8. iPads may not be taken home overnight.


Teachers Role

1. Complete online training and acknowledgement form to become eligible to reserve an iPad cart.
Evaluate the instructional value of each app and/or web 2.0 to be used with the iPad cart. (See Rubric)
2. Request to reserve an iPad cart by completing the online Google form found on Mrs. Ullahs or Ms. Moores
websites. A calendar request will be sent through CMS email to confirm iPad cart reservations.
3. Be responsible for the iPad cart: signing out iPads to each student (Student iPad Classroom Sign out Form),
moving the cart, locking and unlocking the cart, recharging, and making sure all iPads are returned to the media
center and are locked safely in the cart at the end of the usage.
4. Implement a protocol for distribution and collection of the iPads to students.
5. Prepare backup lesson plans to use if the computer network is down.
6. Monitor student use according to the CMS acceptable usage policy, Federal laws (CIPA, COPPA, and FERPA), and
student iPad expectations.
7. Observe that all rules are followed, implement a behavior modification if rules are not followed, and
immediately report any infractions to Mrs. Ullah, Dr. S. Jones, or Ms. Moore.
8. Request specific apps at least 48 hours in advance of your iPad cart reservation (not including weekends).
Teachers should not download any apps, games, or software updates (i.e. iOS 8).
9. Keep iPad card lock code confidential from students.
