Abstract

This paper examines the discoveries made by the two Mars-Rovers on Mars, and explains what
NASA is hoping to achieve with these two robots. It also explains why the research being done with
the robots is important for future generations.
The paper will then explain Kepler’s laws of planetary movement, and then by using Kepler’s laws
of planetary movement explain how it’s possible to calculate how celestial bodies move and at
which speed. It’ll also describe the trajectory for going to Mars from Earth.

By examining various journals and official NASA websites, it was possible to conclude which
discoveries were made by the Mars Rovers, and the importance of these missions.
By doing a scientific review of Kepler’s laws of planetary movement, it was possible to do a
mathematical description of the trajectory, which a rocket going to Mars would follow. From this
trajectory it was possible to calculate how long it would take to get to Mars from Earth, and at
which speed the spacecraft would move. From this it was possible to calculate the acceleration and
speed the spacecraft would have, when it was near Earth, and when it was near Mars. The trajectory
pointed to that it’s possible to get to Mars in 259 days, with a minimum of fuel.

The paper shows that the Mars Rovers are doing important research for the future. By evaluating
the trajectory it’s possible to conclude that going to Mars is possible, but with today’s technology
the spacecrafts will fly with a minimum of speed due to limitations in the amount of fuel it’s
possible to bring on the spacecraft, so until new technology is developed, we will keep sending
spacecrafts to Mars at the same speed.
