Websites for teachers 1. http://reekoscience.com/ This is a great website for teachers who are looking for science experiments to perform in class, or with their class. It also has many articles that could be used in the classroom, for example Whos your mummy? How (and why) ancient Egyptians preserved their dead. (http://reekoscience.com/science-news/medical- science-news/how-ancient-egyptians-made-mummies-preserved-dead ) or the class could watch what happens when astronauts on the moon drop a hammer and a feather at the same time (http://reekoscience.com/science-news/space/apollo-15-astronauts- on-moon-drop-hammer-feather-at-same-time-galileo-gravity ). 2. http://www.science-teachers.com/ This is another great website for teacher resources in upper elementary and middle school science classrooms. It includes lesson plans, worksheets, and activities that can be used in the classroom. 3. http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/40-cool-science- experiments-web This is another website for teachers looking for different science experiments. The neat thing about this website is all of the science experiments are youtube videos, so you can either: watch the experiment and do it yourself or you could watch it with the class and ask questions throughout the video.
Websites to use with students 1. http://www.scholastic.com/kids/weather/sim/game.htm This website is an interactive simulation where the students can change the Relative Humidity, Poleward Temperature, and the Equatorward Temperature to cause different weather to occur. This website would be great to use when teaching students what effects weather and how weather is created, it helps cover and explain SOL 4.6 and 4.8. 2. http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulations/catego ry/new This is another great interactive simulation website for students to use. The difference in this website is that there are more options in the kinds of simulations that one could use in their classroom with their students. This website even has simulations that could be used with mathematics as well, for example Build a Fraction (http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/build-a-fraction ). 3. http://edheads.org/ This is another interactive simulation website for students, but this one seems to be made more for middle school or high school students because of the activities. One that I found that I think could be used for elementary students was Simple Machines (http://edheads.org/activities/simple-machines/frame_loader.htm ). This simulation is fun and educational because the students choose a room; then they have to locate different simple machines; they have to also identify what type of simple machine the object is and then it is explained how the machine works.
