Section 1:
General Guidelines & Specifications
General Guidelines:
A. Device(s) are to be brought to every class, every day, unless otherwise
instructed by each teacher.
B. Students are to use the device(s) in accordance with this handbook. A
digital copy of this handbook will be available from the device and should
not be removed from the device at any time.
C. Students should take the device(s) home daily throughout the school year.
D. Students must take all precautions to prevent theft.
1 Example: Do not leave the device(s) unattended or in the
passenger area of a car.
2 The contents of the school lockers are the responsibility of the
student; any device(s) left in lockers does not relieve the student of
his/her responsibility for lost, theft or damage.
E. Students must take precautions to prevent damage to the device(s).
1 Example: Do not leave the device(s) where there is danger of
coming in contact with moister or excessive heat. This would
include protecting the machine from inclement weather.
F. Students are responsible for their battery usage. It is recommended that
the device(s) have at least 95% battery life when they start each school
day. A discharged battery will be treated as though the student left their
device(s) at home and will have consequences as indicated in Section 5 of
this handbook.
G. The device(s) comes with preloaded apps. Students may not remove
these apps from the machine without the express permission of the
technology department at MHS.
H. Students are to use the device(s) to access only socially and educationally
appropriate materials and websites. See Section 3: Electronic Code of
Conduct.
I. Devices are the property of MHS and must be returned at the end of the
academic year (to be announced), upon withdrawal from MHS, or at the
request of a teacher or administrator. Willful failure to return the device(s)
in accordance with the stated conditions will result in a financial obligation
or could result in criminal investigation, to be determined on a case-by-
case basis.

$
J. Since the devices are the property of MHS, officials of the school have the
right to review all material stored on or accessed by any device(s). School
officials may adjust a students device(s) use privileges for misuse or
violation of policies. See Section 5: Disciplines and Consequences of
Misconduct.
K. Each device(s) will be issued with a suitable power charger, sync cable,
and MHS Logoed portfolio case. All accessories fall under the same use
guidelines as the device(s).
L. Teachers may confiscate the device during class in the case of disruption
or noncompliance; however, the teacher must return the device before the
student exits the classroom, and the teacher must provide
accommodations for learning during that class period. Once a device is
confiscated, the teacher is responsible for it while its in his/her possession.

M. Until further notice, MHS is not allowing any personal electronics on the
campus for instructional time. Only the School issued device(s) will be
allowed in the classroom or on the campus WiFi during school hours. The
technology department will review the device(s) necessary for instruction
on an ongoing basis to ensure the student body and teachers have the
necessary tools for our learning environments.

Student Email Example: Last.First@maranathastudents.org

The Marantha Technology Department is providing all Maranatha
students with school email accounts through Google Apps for
Education starting in the 2014-2015 school year. The student(s) will
have access to his/her/their own Google Drive and Gmail account, and
will be using ebackpack or other Learning Management Systems that
are approved and implemented in his/her/their classes. The use of
email and Learning Management Systems will be monitored by the
Technology Department. Also, teachers will monitor student email/LMS
use during class; and if you have internet access at home, you will be
responsible for allowing, restricting, or monitoring student use at home.
To make this easier, MHS will provide you with the fixed password to
the students account, and has your email on file, receiving auto-
forwards of all emails in and out of this account. The student email
address and LMSs provided by Maranatha are only to be used for
academic purposes assigned by teachers or authorized Maranatha
faculty/staff.
