Case: Climbing the Ladder: Short report summarizing data about corporate opportu
nities for women
As assistant to the director of human resources for a large advertising firm, yo
u hear the concerns of many employees. Lately, increasing numbers of women have
been complaining about being passed up for promotions and management positions.
They feel that men receive preferential treatment, even though many women are mo
re highly qualified.
Your team has already conducted some research into the problem. Table 1 shows se
veral key statistics about the men and women working for your company. Tables 2
& 3 show why female executives believe that women should have more opportunities
in the corporate world. These data may help shed light on the possibility of se
x discrimination at your company. Because your company believes in fair and equa
l treatment for all employees, regardless of gender, you know your boss will be
interested in this information.
Your task: Write a short report to the director of human resources, interpreting
and summarizing the information in these tables. Suggest a possible course of a
ction to remedy the situation at your company.
