Student Name: Jeff Makin
Speech Type: Informative Speech
Maintaining the worlds life line; Aircraft Mechanics

Organization Type: Topical Order
Attention Getter Type: Rhetorical Question
Conclusion Type: Reference to Introduction (circle approach)

Goal/Purpose
I want to inform my audience about the career opportunities as an aircraft mechanic.

Introduction
I. (AGD): Good morning! Doesnt it suck when your vacation is delayed
because the airliner cant even get off the ground?

II. (Transition): There are people around the world who keep thousands of
vacationers, business people, air force pilots, and trade moving like
clockwork. They are aircraft mechanics. I felt that it was a calling to
keep aircraft flying.

III. (Thesis Statement): Pursuing a career in aircraft maintenance is one
that I have chosen for its exceptional training and job opportunities.

Body
I. Aircraft Mechanics receive exceptional training opportunities.
A. Airframe and Power plant (A&P) certificates.
1. O-net lists the many tasks that mechanics must complete.
Aircraft have aluminum alloy frames. Cracks, impact dents
and corrosion cause mechanics to inspect the aircraft daily.
The aircraft also has a power plant much like a car engine.
Mechanics often have to examine the fuel for foreign debris
and have to fix broken parts. (talk about pictures on the
slides)

B. Avionics certificates.
1. The world of aviation is being taken over by electronics. "Kids are
enamored with computers and we want to show them that advanced technologies -
things like optics and fly-by-wire - are the tools of our trade," stated in the article
Aircraft Mechanic Shortage: The Lull Before the Storm?" by ProQuest from Commuter/
Regional Airlines News. (talk about the pictures on the slides)

Transition: But a career as an aircraft mechanic isnt all about training.
There is also an unlimited amount of job opportunities.

II. Aircraft mechanics job opportunities as long as you are willing to
pursue them.
1. Military always needs mechanics and you can make a career
out of it. An article from Bangor Daily news says (Scott) Royal,
49, who spent 22 years as an aircraft structural mechanic in the U.S.
Navy, a plane in pieces was not much of a challenge at all -- in fact, it
was more like a puzzle. That is a long career and he could be
working a civilian job now. A job isnt guaranteed but an old
military maintenance proverb states that there are 10
mechanics for every pilot.

2. Carm Matricciani, who I interviewed on September 24, 2014,
said that aviation thrives on networking, since it is a small
world. So somebody may know someone who can give you a
job. The guy you worked with at you last job could be
making you his right hand man in a new company. (I have
met Carm several time before my friend suggested him for
the interview, small world?)

3. BLS.gov say In general, job opportunities will be best for
mechanics who hold an A&P certificate and have knowledge
about the most cutting edge technologies and composite
materials. Familiarity with computers and digital systems
will help provide the best opportunities

Transition: With all of that, aircraft maintenance has a lot to offer. I
have only covered a small portion. The aviation world may be small but
it is full of benefits if you know how to navigate it.

Conclusion
I. (Restatement of Thesis): Because of exceptional training and job
opportunities, I aspire to become an aircraft mechanic.

II. (Transition): Without aircraft mechanics, trade and transportation could
still take days to months to get where it should go. And your boss may not
approve the extra vacation time

III. (Clincher): Now tell me, who are you going to think about on your next
flight to paradise?
