Lovett, Richard. "The Healthy Option?." New Scientist 190.2550 (2006): 40. MAS Ultra - School
Edition. Web. 22 Sept. 2014.

In this article, the author speaks about Aspartame and how its viewed in the public. The other
goes through the history of aspartame and artificial sweeteners. It focuses on what is factual
about artificial sweeteners rather than being opinionated. There is no set good or bad view for
aspartame in this article, only what informantion have been proven to be true. It goes on to
compare and contrast two studies on aspartame and their differences.
It would be a fairly reliable source for my paper because it is mainly factual. There is no
immediate bias for or against aspartame. The author really tried to remain neutral while giving
facts and examples of the effects aspartame has on the population. It gives evidence through
studies on the effects aspartame has on the body and really breaks down these studies to compare
results.
This article would be a good source because not only does it give facts but it presents examples
of those facts that are easily accessible to go back and review given the need to. Also, at the end
of this essay it gives me a short list of false pretenses against aspartame. It also gives a general
idea of how much aspartame would need to be used to sweeten diet beverages. Seeing as how my
entire project is on the effects that artificial sweeteners have on the body, Ive concluded that
these attributes will help enhance my paper greatly.

Paynter, Ben. "The Sweet Science." Fast Company 155 (2011): 112. MasterFILE Premier. Web.

In this article, the author informs us on the stevia plant and its effects in the food industry. The
author interviews several important business men and women at Truvia to see how the stevia
plant came into play in the artificial sweetener world. It explains how many food companies
wanted to cut back on sugar in their beverages so they entertained the idea of working with
Truvia to make a drink with fewer calories from sugar. It also explains the ups and downs in the
company from when it started to where it is now.
This article may be a semi-reliable source because it only follows the struggles of one artificial
sweetener rather than all of them. The source gives plenty of factual details and great direct
quotes from the business men and women themselves. While reading this article, I felt a biased
vibe in favor of the Truvia sweetener because there are so many good points while there are very
little bad.
This article may not be the best source for my project because it does have a strong bias in favor
of one artificial sweetener. The author definitely goes into detail about the background of the
company but there is so many good parts that I feel that some information had been omitted.

Warner, Deborah Jean. "Empty Pleasures: The Story Of Artificial Sweeteners From Saccharin
To Splenda." American Historical Review 117.1 (2012): 249-250. History Reference
Center. Web. 22 Sept. 2014.

In this article, the author reviews a book that goes through the history of saccharin dating back to
the 1880s. The author explains how saccharin was used throughout history as a sugar substitute
when there was nothing else, even claiming that one of our former presidents used it without
gaining any weight. Through the source, the author talks about how the use of saccharin became
a problem because it was not tested for safe use by the FDA.
This would be a reliable source because it gives many facts about saccharin that I didnt know
before I started this project. I feel I can trust this source because it is a book review, and it only
becomes bias and non-factual towards the end when she gave her opinion.
I feel this review would help my paper because there are plenty of facts in here that I could use.
If I was able to find the book that she reviewed, I would have used that as a source but this is
probably the next best thing because there are some facts from both that I could use.

Hull, Janet Starr. "The Dangers Of Artificial Sweeteners." Total Health 27.1 (2005):
30. MasterFILE Premier. Web. 22 Sept. 2014.

In this article, the author expresses the dangers of some of the most common artificial
sweeteners. It goes through the negative effects that these chemicals can have on the body and
what big name companies have put into their artificial sweeteners that make them so harmful.
The article also goes on to explain some alternative and safe, natural sweeteners that can be used
in foods.
I feel this source would be a fairly reliable source. It gives me the dangerous effects of artificial
sweeteners and what they can do to the human body. It also has quotes from doctors and
scientists that give information on what these chemicals are and what they do.
This article would be a great source for my paper because it provides factual information rather
than biased information from big name companies. It gives the facts of whats in Splenda and
NutraSweet/Equal artificial sweeteners such as sucralose and aspartame, both of which are
harmful to the human body.
