Annotated Bibliography: Cystic Fibrosis
Carson - DeWitt, Rosalyn. "Cystic Fibrosis: CF." Consumer Health Complete. EBSCOhost, Mar.
2014. Web. 24 Sept. 2014.
This article is about causes, risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, nutritional support,
managing lung infections, lung and airway support, and prevention for cystic fibrosis. It provides
basic knowledge about patients with the disease. The article educates readers by going into detail
about numerous topics that regard cystic fibrosis, CF. Rosalyn Carson-Dewitt, MD, explains that
CF is a genetic disease that causes a defect in certain cells of the lung and digestive system.

This article is a reliable source because it lists all facts desired from an individual researching the
topic or what CF is. It is written by a medical doctor, MD, which verifies the liability of the
source. The information is split up into basic parts to explain the disease in great detail.

This article is a great source for a research project because it covers many questions presented to
the researcher. The questions may consist of what the disease is, how to treat it, etc. The article
explains in simple terms so that it is possible for all readers to understand. It covers the basis to
form the research paper and explain to readers what CF is.

Pryor, J. A., B. A. Webber, M. E. Hodson, and J. C. Batten. "Formats:." National Center for
Biotechnology Information. U.S. National Library of Medicine, 18 Aug. 1979. Web. 24
Sept. 2014.
This article is about the ways to rid postural drainage in 13 different patients with cystic fibrosis.
Scientists are taking different approaches on how to go about treating the disease. It states that all
13 patients were admitted to the hospital due to severe bronchopulmonary infection.
Unfortunately the trials did not help any of the 13 patients, but it gave an example of a process
that did not benefit patients with CF. It goes in detail about each patient's path to getting rid of
the infection, in hopes to help patients with CF.

This article is a reliable source because it is from a British Medical Journal. The article is from a
trial conducted by doctors and it explains their journey on helping patients with CF to recovery.
Doctors explain that there is still no cure for CF but different steps are being taken to help
improve and enhance their lives.
This article is a great source for a research project because it gives the researcher exactly the
information needed to provide evidence for how doctors are trying to cure CF. It will allow for a
detailed research paper explaining what is being done in the CF community.

European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). "Potential new drug target for cystic fibrosis."
ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 13 September 2013.
This article is about scientists exploration in the genetic makeup of a patient with CF. They have
discovered new genes that make up the DNA for a patient with the disease. By discovering the
new gene it allow scientist to go about screening techniques differently which result in a larger
variety of ways to help a person that obtains the disease.

This article is a reliable source because it comes from a European Molecular Biology
Laboratory. The article is from a group of educated scientists from several different universities.
This gives the reader a better understanding as to why the research was conducted.

This article is a great source for a research paper because it asks the essential question, how are
doctors trying to further the life expectancy of patients with CF? It goes into detail about the
topic of CF. It helps the researcher get a better understanding of the genetics that are involved in
finding a cure for the disease.

Sharma, Girish D. "Cystic Fibrosis ." Cystic Fibrosis. Medscape, 14 Apr. 2014. Web. 24 Sept.
2014.
This article goes into more detail about the genetic makeup about a patient with CF. It talks
about the gene mutation and how more patients are being helped each day. Although there is no
cure doctors continue to make advances. Through different procedures doctors are expanding the
horizon for CF patients.

This article is a reliable source because it is written by a medical doctor. He explains the disease
thoroughly. He covers all questions regarding the prognosis to the treatment. He gives the
reader/researcher a clear interpretation of what CF is and the journey of a patient with the
disease.

The article is a great source for a research paper because it explains in great detail everything
that the researcher needs to discover. The article allows the researcher to elaborate their topic and
further prove the answer to the question of how doctors are trying to further the life expectancy
of patients with CF.
