C. Generalization
1. What do we mean by emphasis?
Emphasis means enabling your ideas to stand out among the others.

2. What are the ways to secure emphasis in developing and organizing ideas?
There are five: (1) making grammatical structures parallel and uniform; (2)
maintaining the subject; (3) giving subjects equal play up; (4) positioning the important
ideas properly; and (5) using repetition.

3. Why is it important to use emphasis?
Emphasis helps the reader remember the important details in the paragraph.

D. Practice task
Let the students answer Exercises 12-14 on Studying and Thinking Skills in English, pages
304-307.

E. Evaluation
Directions: Answer the following questions in 3-5 sentences.
1. What does emphasis mean in developing and organizing an idea?
2. How may emphasis be achieved in developing and organizing an idea?
3. What does parallel construction mean?
4. What does uniform construction mean?
5. What is meant by giving subjects equal play up?
6. What is meant by maintaining the subject?

V. ASSIGNMENT
In not less than 8 sentences, write a paragraph about yourself. Underline the words,
phrases and clauses that shows emphasis and identify which of the five ways to achieve
emphasis was used. Encircle the subject of your paragraph.
