What are two ways that political movements
A political movement that impacts me is the Women's Suffrage Movement in Canada.
Beginning in 1878, women in Canada protested for equal rights as men to vote for elected
representatives in the government. Progress was slow until the 1910's, as suffrage groups sent
petitions and continued to protest. They then created the Political Equality League with the help
of Nellie McClung. By that time, they had many supporters of men and women. In 1916,
Manitoba passed a bill that allowed women the right to vote, followed by the other provinces of
Canada.
This movement affects me because I am a woman and equality is very important to me. The
Women's Suffrage Movement was the rst push for equality rights, followed by equality rights in
I rst came across this movement in
fourth grade when we had to do a project
on the Famous Five (the ve leaders of
the Suffrage Movement in Canada.) I later
