Introduction: Hone Tuwhare is considered as New Zealands most renowned Maori poet. His poetry is mainly motivated by Maori culture; his relationship with nature and his opinion on the destructive ability of man on both nature and himself are two of the most central themes that distinguish his poetry. Tuwhares innermost thoughts and emotions are passionately expressed through his poetry whether it be a show of deep reverence for nature or an angry protest against mankinds cruelty. His use of poetic devices such as poetic apostrophe, personification, and onomatopoeia all help to strongly and effectively deliver his message to his audience.
