Description of how to implement in the class:
When the students walk into the room, there will be Sequoyah sitting on a stool at the front of the
classroom, not saying anything or acknowledging anyone. Once students are in their seats and it is
time to begin, I will ask them what they know about the Cherokee Indians. We will start a listing on
the board of what they know. I will then introduce Sequoyah, who will tell them about his life and his
development of the Cherokee alphabet. The students will be able to ask questions about what life was
like for native Americans during this time period and what it was like for Sequoyah and his family.
The students will then create a Kidspiration organizer to fill in the details of what they heard as well
as have an opportunity to research additional information about Sequoyah, they will then use this
organizer to write a paper about what they think it would have been like to live during the time
period when Sequoyah was developing and implementing the Cherokee alphabet.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):
This lesson is a LoTi level of 5 because there is an expert (Sequoyah) coming into the classroom and
they will be using Kidspiration to develop and organize their ideas that they can then use to assist
them in writing a paper about what it would have been like to be a Cherokee Indian during the time
period when the Cherokee Alphabet was developed and implemented.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *:
Viewers will see a Kidspiration graphic organizer that has notes from the students experience with
Sequoyah. On the graphic organizer they will have who, what, when, where, and why as well as any
additional notes that they found important that they may want to include in their paper.
