Lech Walesa

Lech Walesa was born on September 29th, 1943. Lech Walesa is a devout polish catholic.
He became a dissident trade union activist. He helped many protests , one of them being
the shipyard strike in 1970.

Walesa became co-founder of the solidarity trade union, one of the first non-communists
party controlled trade unions in the Warsaw pact country.

He got arrested again after martial law was imposed in Poland and solidarity was outlawed.

After released from jail he earned the Nobel peace prize in 1983.

He continued his activism and was part of the establishment of the 1989 round table
agreement
that later led to solidarity-led government.

Walesa was elected president of Poland in December 22, 1990 during this time he wrote
two books, Away of Hope, and The Struggle and the Triumph.

Walesa presidency ended 5 years later in December 22, 1995.
